The people who matter most aren’t always boosting your engagement stats 📈

It’s the same within companies:
💡 The important decision makers aren’t always the loudest
🤝 Trust is built through consistency, not one flashy moment
🔊 Execution over time speaks louder than announcements

Thats why, even though I don’t seem to get a lot of work “via” LinkedIn - I remain consistent 

Consistency builds reliability and trust 🤝

I may not always post “relevant” things but I’m learning that it’s often the “irrelevant” stuff that people engage with most 🤌🏼

Which turns content creation into an actual enjoyable activity💡

Taking brands from where they are, to where they deserve to be.

£402 was all I made in September 

The worst month I’ve ever had in my decade of self employment 💔

The following 2 months have been better - but still not enough 

The stress of;
Watching the “safety net” shrinking 
Reassessing overheads 
Rethinking lead gen 
The impending doom of “should I just bin it off and get a job instead?” 

Quickly followed by the panic of the thought of someone else telling me what to do 🤢

Truth is - I had coaching over a year ago and they’d told me repeatedly “you need retainer work”

I agreed

Yet did nothing 

I was stuck in a “healthy” cycle of enquiries and work coming in 

I didn’t need them then

Now I’m stuck in a different way

Between trying to charge my worth for the quality of branding I provide and finding more clients coming back saying noOoO due to low budget (which is not an issue on them btw 🫶🏼)

But now it’s left me short 

Maybe if I’d quoted less?
Maybe I’m still going after the wrong clients? 
Maybe they don’t get what I’m offering? 

No 

I refuse to take a step backwards for short-term gains

So here we are, back at the drawing board - figure out how to get retainer work

For safety
For certainty
For f*@king survival 🤦🏼‍♀️

Your gal can’t survive on £402, but luckily I’ve had months so good I can gratefully ride a couple of bad waves like this

New month, new goals

Happy start of November guys, it’s tough out there at the minute, keep on pushing 💪🏽

I once turned down a job in a design agency, here's why

They shot themselves in the foot 🔫

I'd been eyeing them up for months

On paper, it looked great:
✅ Good money
✅ Good culture
✅ Growth potential

But that last point tripped me up.

The role? Artworker. 

To me, it was an easy role, a foot in the door, an opportunity.

I asked what my 'responsibilities' would be, and they came down to;
1️⃣ Editing existing docs
2️⃣ Reusing templates
3️⃣ But zero 'creative' input

I asked:
“If a Designer role comes up, could I have priority?”

Answer: 
“It would be opened internally and externally, the chosen candidate will be based on skills and years of experience.”

The whole concept of that felt backwards to me 🤯

I was applying to 'non-creative' role

And could be in that roll for 2 years

By which time, I've spent 2 years being an Artworker (reminder - zero creative input) 

So when a "Designer" role comes up

An external applicant from another company - who has been a Designer for 2 years - would probably be more favourable than me

So when they rang and told me "we are very excited to offer you the position"

I politely declined 🙃

It seems a number of you are not enjoying posts that are accompanied with a selfie 🫣

So here's a few reasons why you're seeing it;

1️⃣ - 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲𝘀 & 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀
I could go all the way back to the start of my Linkedin, every post with a face, has had larger impression and engagement numbers (and yes, before you start, I know these are just vanity metrics) But, I've read and heard multiple times that posts with faces get up to 40% more engagement 👀 

2️⃣ - 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆
This is my personal brand I'm building, what better way to do it, than with my face? It's well known within marketing and advertising, that faces make ads more memorable and easier to recall 💭

3️⃣ - 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗸𝗲 𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁
I work in branding, all I ever bang on about is emotional and human connection, faces my friends -> are where it's at. From facial expressions, to quirky poses, it's giving connection 🤝

What working at McDonald’s taught me when I was 16 🍔

It was my first ever job, I was; 
- Fresh faced ☺️
- Bright eyed 😍
- Eager to earn some moneeeey 🤑

But let me tell you now 

It did not take me long to be taught some very serious lessons 

Lessons that I’ve carried with me ever since 

In fact, I’d go as far as calling it PTSD 🤣😭

Lessons on being
- undervalued
- underpaid
- unhappy

You’d be worked to the bone

👉 But get caught chatting for 2 mins?
The ol faithful “time to lean, time to clean” 

👉 I’d be questioned if I didn’t sell enough “large meal upgrades”
So I stopped even asking, if people didn’t specify ‘medium’ damn right I’d decide for them 

👉 3 minutes over on your break?
Expect to be taken over the knee in the office, despite the 9/10 times you finish 30 minutes late because there are “customers that need to be served”

So yes, I learnt a lot

It taught me valuable lessons in;
- Poor workplace culture
- Even poorer leadership and management techniques 
- The unwavering feeling of dread when my next shift was coming up 

But most importantly 

It pushed me 👋🏽

Pushed me to make something of myself as soon as possible so I could get out of there 

👉 Know your worth, know you can do and be better, and you will 👈

Let's take a moment to 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘶𝘥 this statement 👏

Yes - applaud it - let me explain why 👇

Linkedin is meant to be a 'networking' platform - which means, it's about building relationships, the phrase 'know like and trust' comes to mind

How not to build a relationship? 

➡️ By posting your billboard sale ads everyday ⬅️

Why? 

Because nobody wants to engage with that 🫣

People want to see the nitty gritty, BTS, real sh*t that actually goes on 👀

They want drama, debates, dilemmas 👏

👉 That means being real
👉 It means posting personal sh*t
👉 It's giving your audience something to resonate with
👉 Something they can actually be a*sed to read

And it’s no secret that personal brands work a lot like business brands. The same way we crave content that feels personal, real and relatable here - building a business brand follows those same pointers.

So congrats Linkedin, you're finally finding your place in the social media world 

The stuffy ones that disapprove of seeing the above? They're already on the back foot, and their content? 

Most likely boring as hell 🥱

The closest-to-home project we've completed so far 🥲

Here's Sierra Lima's story:

𝗦𝗶𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮 𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗮 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗵𝘆𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱 𝗴𝘆𝗺 combining functional fitness styles like 𝗖𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗙𝗶𝘁, 𝗛𝘆𝗿𝗼𝘅 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 into a structured programme designed to build 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵, 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲.

This gym was created to 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 first and foremost.

With a background in 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲, our founder’s vision was to provide a 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲, 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 where people can 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁, 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 - 𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆.

Whether it's a new venture or your very first, there's a few important things to consider when it comes to the naming process ⬇️

1️⃣ 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝗗𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗲𝘀 🖥️

👉 Too many times I've seen clients fall in love with a name before they know if it’s available, nothing kills the vibe more than “.biz” because “.com” was taken 💔

2️⃣ 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 🕐

👉 Only recently I advised a client on a similar situation - funny names might get a chuckle now, but will you still love saying it when you’re answering phones, sending invoices, or pitching clients? Novelty wears off fast 💨

3️⃣ 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 🤏

👉 Long names = awkward logos, messy socials and everyone shortening it anyway. Snappy wins, always 🤌

We worked with Aurora Retreats a few months ago - A luxury retreat company seeking a minimal, elegant and welcoming brand identity 🤗

The goal was to capture the essence of high-end healing and ongoing, supportive coaching 💪

Clients often panic when giving feedback in case something isn't "quite right" but we encourage it! 

There would be nothing worse than pretending everything was 'spot on' only to hate it later on down the line.

And as gutted as I was about one of the palettes not being selected (🤧) it definitely turned out perfect in the end 😍

This weeks overused Linkedin phrase

"Future ready"

Most commonly found on accounts that are abusing AI usage and calling it a 'business plan' 🙃

3 months ago I started putting money into shares ⬇️

No, I do not know what I’m doing 

I’m about 40% clued up on what’s happening on there 

So why do it? 

My younger brother has been at it for years, kept telling me to get on it and I felt like I was turning into one of those “excusers”

“But I don’t know what I’m doing”
“Maybe next year when I know a bit more”
“You’ll have to show me then I can start” 

And one day he messaged to let me know a “big one” had dropped massively and now would be a good time to get on it

So you know what I did?

I just did it 

I’m no expert

I’m not trying to sell it

But I’m +£193 in only 3 months 

And yes I know it could also drop tomorrow 

But that’s still more than my savings accounts gave me after a year with x3 the amount I had put in so I’ll take it 🤷🏼‍♀️

Sometimes - a lot like starting your own business (or any new venture in fact) you don’t know everything, you don’t have the answers, and that’s fine, but you just have to take the risk

You learn more when you jump right in the deep end, than you do spending months excusing and “preparing” there is never a “right time” just get on it and figure it out as you go (for now)

So how much does it cost for a rebrand?

A question I get asked often, and like most things, there is no one answer fits all, but here's a 𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 guide what you should expect 

(and not just from us)

The cost of a rebrand can range from a couple hundred from a freelancer, to over £20k from a big agency! 

Let's break it down into some basic tiers;

𝗧𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝟭 - 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗴𝗼-𝗢𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 (£200-£1k) 👀
This is the entry-level tier - usually done by freelance designers, either local or on platforms like Fiverr or Upwork. For a few hundred pounds, you’ll get just a logo.
👉 But you’re buying a visual only, not a strategy. These designers rarely explore your goals, audience, or positioning. 

𝗧𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝟮 - 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼 𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗿 (£1.5k-£7k) 👨‍🎨
This is where real branding begins. A professional designer or small agency (like Genesis Creative!) will take a more strategic approach - running discovery sessions, researching competitors and then creating a custom identity that aligns with your goals.
👉 You’ll get cohesive assets like a colour palette, typography, style guide and brand visuals - perfect for small to medium businesses ready to scale.

Get either of these wrong?
👉 Your message will get lost in the noise
👉 You'll start getting the wrong enquiries
👉 Customers won't have any real reason to choose you

Usually thrown around after 2 business owners have met up over a coffee and agreed to 'consider' each other in future projects 🙃

Last weekend, the kids gave me a massage 💆‍♀️

I was a little reluctant when they first came to ask me upstairs for it 🥴

Them - "Please say yes, we have a form ready for you to fill out for your appointment miss"
Me - "Well how could anyone say no to such a polite offering?!"

Anyway
They took me upstairs
Laid me down in a dark room
On some comfortable pillows
Put some underwater soundtracks on
Asked me if I was comfortable
Offered me a drink
Then 10 minutes later, I came out covered in cleanser, serum and god knows what else 😂

Them - "Did you enjoy your experience miss?"
Me - "Oh yes, thank you it was lovely and relaxing"
Them - "Great, well could you please give us a rating?"

And so I did 🥹

Moral of the story -
If your clients enjoyed working with you, don’t be shy 🫣 follow up and ask for that review.

Because sometimes, you just have to channel the confidence of two miniature masseuses and say…

 “Plez Rate 🙏”

1️⃣ "𝗜'𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆" 
- Me: Omg pressure's on, they must be hard to please 😩

Every journey and customer is different, but any one of these comments makes sending out those first concepts and waiting for the reply back a nail biting experience

But, the truth is ...

9 times out of 10, clients love the first round 🎉

And the odd time they don't?

👉 We tweak, refine, try again 👉 until it’s spot on

✅ We currently have a 100% success rate on clients leaving us with a brand they love

❌ No, not cocky

We just listen → research → create 🎨

What's everyone else’s thoughts on the minimalist design wave that has hit?? 🌊

I stumbled across the Pringles rebrand recently and couldn’t help but laugh - turns out Mr. P has been quietly rocking a receding hairline for years - and now it’s gone completely 😂

But

I think personally if a client wanted to add hair to their logo, I may object - but I am a modern-minimalist at heart 🫶

And my standing has always been to keep logos as adaptable as possible 🤌

Less Detail = Better Adaptability
