I am pretty sure the recent SEO visibility growth of Reddit.com is unprecedented in the history of Google Search. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but never has a site seen this massive of an increase in SEO rankings, traffic, and visibility in this short amount of time.

To put this into numbers, I’ll use the SISTRIX visibility index, which assigns a Visibility Index score to sites that represents how visible they are on a particular country-specific index of Google’s results, based on search volumes and organic rankings for a set index of keywords. Think of it like the stock market of SEO, and in this case I’ll share U.S.-specific data.

Reddit has moved from the ~80th biggest SEO site on Google.com last July, to the 6th biggest today. Its visibility index score has increased from 77 to over 1,000 VI points during that time. Once again, with this recent March Core Update, its exponential growth literally no longer fits on the chart. 

Site owners may have noticed that Google also elevates Reddit in its new “Discussions and Forums” feature, which now even ranks above extremely high-authority websites for YMYL (your money, your life) keywords like “weight loss” (h/t to my teammate Liz Backo for catching that one). 

Yesterday I found an example of a Reddit result ranking prominently on page 1 when I searched Google for how to lose 10 pounds in 1 week? A redditor suggested “cutting your arm off.” 

I and others have raised these concerns for months with Google - EDIT/UPDATE: you can see Danny Sullivan's specific responses in the comments below.

It’s one thing to give a site a nudge because users like it. It’s another to blast virtually *ALL* organic results with endless Reddit threads, Discussions and Forums, Reddit cited in SGE, you name it.

I shared a screenshot example from Mordy Oberstein that shows how Google will take any suggestion of a branded keyword (containing Reddit) and show almost exclusively Reddit results with 0 other website options except LinkedIn.

I’ve been reluctant to jump on the conspiracy train that this explosive organic growth has anything to do with Google’s recent $60 million annual partnership announcement with Reddit, but they’re making it pretty hard not to be skeptical that there appears to be something extremely shady going on.

Or perhaps Reddit is just a great way to overwhelm users with “first hand experience” at a time when users are bored with generic AI content? Quora is also seeing enormous growth, which makes this “theory” feel a bit more plausible. This is also consistent with what Google said it would be doing as part of the “Hidden Gems” component of the Helpful Content Update.

New Technical SEO article: How to perform an internal linking audit with Screaming Frog. 

This is a fantastic guide by Ryan Jones that covers a variety of ways to utilize Screaming Frog in order to analyze the internal linking structure of your website. 

1. Broken Links: Use the "Response Codes" tab to find "Internal" broken links on your site

2. Links To Redirect Pages: Use the "Internal Redirection (3xx) report to find internal links that are pushing through a 301 redirect. You can also use the "Internal Redirect Chain" view to find pages 

3.  Link Equity Distribution: In Screaming Frog, go to Internal > HTML to find all of your pages. Then you can sort by the "Inlinks" column. This allows you to quickly find pages that 

4. Identify Orphan Pages: Go to Configuration > Crawl Config and only check the "Crawl Linked XML Sitemaps" box and run a crawl of the site. Then go to Bulk Export > Sitemaps > Orphan URLs Inlinks to see which pages are referenced in the sitemap.xml but not internally linked to. 

5. Optimize Anchor Text: You can look at all the anchor text used to reference a given page. Go to Internal > HTML and click the link of a given URL. In the "Inlinks" section at the bottom you can see the referencing pages and the "Anchor Text" used to reference them. You can perform this review for high priority pages. 

6. Click Depth: Screaming Frog's "Crawl Tree" graph can be used to visualize how far away your content is away from the home page. Content that is too far down can be prioritized for internal linking. 

This is one of the better internal linking guides I've read in a long time and goes through the process using a tool that almost everyone has access to.

Something SGE related I haven’t seen anyone talk about: the individual components that make up these results are all tagged within data attributes.

Take a look yourself by loading up any SGE result that returns a paragraph, inspecting the element and searching for "SGEParagraphFeedback".

I think this is cool for a few reasons:

1. We gain an understanding of what Google considers to be a distinct feature. 
2. Scraping using these attributes should be subject to less change than random divs and spans.
3. We can use them to detect the presence of specific components within the results.
4. We can use their presence – or the presence of different combinations – to classify feature intent and how that contrasts with the vanilla results.

In fact, you don't need to focus on 200+ ranking factors.

1. User experience. You need to make sure your website is easy to use and enjoyable. From website speed to accessibility - all these things are uber important.

2. High-quality content. You focus on user intent, enhance readability, provide valuable insights, and update it regularly.

3. Backlinks. The more high-quality backlinks you have, the higher your website will rank (it's a reality). Intelligent internal linking is also something you should constantly be working on.

These three factors work perfectly together. If you remove one of them, you won't be able to enhance your online visibility.
