3 years ago, I was watching Codebasics tutorials on YouTube.

Today, I’m the Head of Content & Analytics at Codebasics.

Even typing that feels surreal.

But here's how it unfolded 👇🏼

📅 2021

Started learning Python and DSA on Codebasics' YouTube channel.

Landed a job at Infosys as a System Engineer.

📅 2022

Tried Power BI using the Sales Insights Project.

Loved the teaching. Joined the newly launched Power BI course.

Later that year, I juggled my full-time job and joined the Resume Project Challenge.

Started showing up consistently on LinkedIn.

📅 End of 2022

Out of nowhere, Hemanand Vadivel reached out asking if I’d like to join the Codebasics team.

How could I say no?

Started freelancing with them, right when Codebasics was transforming from a YouTube channel into a company.

📅 2023 – Joined full-time as Data Analyst & Product Owner

📅 2024 – Promoted to Product Manager

📅 June 2025 – Became Head of Content & Analytics

Yes, I feel the pressure.

Yes, the title still feels big in my mouth.

But then I read this line again:

“𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘆 𝗻𝗼𝘄, 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁.”

I may not know everything today, but I know I’ll figure it out.

Because that’s what I’ve always done.

Let me break it down for you, 

Using a profession we all know: 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀.

🧑‍⚕️ A doctor is a professional role. 

Likewise, 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝘁 is the name of the role.

What does a doctor typically do when you visit a hospital?

They perform a check-up to understand what health issues you might have. 

Similarly, when a Data Analyst examines data to uncover insights, that process is called 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀.

Now, think about the field a doctor works in — that’s Medicine or Healthcare.

Likewise, the broader domain a Data Analyst works in is called 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀.

📌 𝗧𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲:

- Data Analyst → The professional

- Data Analysis → The task they perform

- Data Analytics → The field they belong to

Let’s be honest. 

Most of us nod at AI terms without knowing them

Understanding the basic AI terms is no longer a “𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱-𝘁𝗼-𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄”.

It’s a 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁-𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄.

Let me break down a few core terms in simple language:

➡️ 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗜 (𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗔𝗜):

AI that creates new stuff—like text, images, videos, or music.
Think of it like a smart artist powered by maths.

➡️ 𝗔𝗜 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁:

An AI that can understand what’s around, make decisions, and take action.

It uses powerful language models to do this.

➡️ 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗜:

A system made of one or more AI agents that can plan and act on their own.
No need for step-by-step instructions every time.

➡️ 𝗟𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘀 (𝗟𝗟𝗠𝘀):

These are huge AI models trained on tons of text.

They can answer questions, write, chat, and more.

(Examples: ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok)

➡️ 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿:

A special tech that made all this AI progress possible.

It helps AI understand and work with human language.

BTW, what is a Semantic Model?

It is the 𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗮𝘄 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗜 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀, giving structure, meaning, and logic to the data.

It's what makes data understandable and usable for business users without them needing to write complex queries.

In simple terms, it is a 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿. It knows how tables are related, what each column means, and how to calculate metrics like "Total Sales" or "Profit Margin."

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀:

➡️ Tables

➡️ Relationships

➡️ Measures (DAX)

➡️ Calculated Columns

➡️ Hierarchies

➡️ Metadata

➡️ Row Level Security

The semantic model is built in Power BI Desktop.

Now, with 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝗙𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗰, you can create it in the Fabric ecosystem as well. (online)

When you publish to Power BI Service, your semantic model can be 𝗿𝗲𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 in multiple reports and tools (like Excel or third-party BI apps).

✅ 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁:

➡️ Removes the need for end users to know SQL.

➡️ Ensures consistent metrics and logic across all reports.

➡️ Enables self-service BI at scale.

➡️ Acts as a "𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵" for analysis.

From there, I started it.

 If you wanted to learn Power Automate, but weren't able to due to a work account, 

I strongly recommend learning any of these tools. 

As all of these automation tools work with similar logic, you can transfer your learning later.

So, how do you rebuild that trust?
