Life had come a full circle for me a few weeks back in the most crazy manner.

Had a “pinch me” moment sitting in the last row at University of Warwick - Warwick Business School’s Shard campus watching first time entrepreneurs meet their Advisory Board members and witness Alexander’s infectious energy change all our lives with this inspiring program he’s started. 

In 2011, I was another disillusioned 24yr old international Masters Graduate from WBS heading back to India because the western world’s economy and job market was bleaker than India. Words I never thought I’d say when I signed up for my masters.

And now here I am 14 years later introducing myself as a solo founder and business coach to a bunch of inspiring founders from all walks of life- some just completed their undergraduate course and some their executive MBA’s. 

All with one thing in common.

A spirit to bet on themselves and their ideas.

I looked around the room. 

I couldn’t have done what they’re doing at age 24. 

Bet on myself.

So I admire them. And their spirit.

But mostly I am humbled to advise them. 

It’s both an honour and a learning curve to be on the other side, because I too, bet on myself a decade back.

I’ve come to realise that entrepreneurs are nothing special. 

We’re just normal folks - trying to do things a bit different. 

Our appetite for risk and failure is 1% more. 

Our skins are thicker. 

We know we’ll fall - it’s just that we pick ourselves up.

This path is meant for anyone and everyone. 

It all starts with asking “why?”

Why do you want to make someone’s life better by 1%?

Why is your solution a better offering?

Why should your customer give a damn?

I thought my first brand would be my big break.

Auraz. A home décor brand.

Antique pieces from across India,  I thought everyone would want.

I poured my savings into stock.

Boxes piled up in my godown in Bangalore.

I was sure it would sell.

But it didn’t.

Day after day, the orders never came as fast as I hoped.

And I sat staring at gorgeous unsold pieces. Paying rent. Paying salaries.

The money hurt.

The wasted months hurt more.

But the worst part?

Knowing I never even asked customers if they cared.

I kept telling myself I’d figure it out.

But deep down, I felt like a fool.

I learnt the hard way that you don’t need to gamble like that.

I flipped the process.

4. Make customers prove demand before I spent a dollar on stock.

The relief was huge.

No more dead inventory.

Here’s what I did and what it led to…

Talked to real buyers.
Listened to what they wanted, not what I thought they wanted.
That gave me clarity.

Set up simple pre-launch pages.
Collected emails.
Proved demand without spending.

Step 3: Pre-orders

Opened sales before manufacturing.
Customers funded the batch.
I launched with cash in hand, not debt.

It felt almost too simple.

But it worked.

And that’s when it clicked.

Launching lean isn’t just possible.
It’s smarter.

Now, my mission is simple.

It's the one I used since I learnt my lesson, over 10 yrs ago.

Because I know how it feels to lose money, time, and confidence chasing the old way.

Instead, more products nearly sank my business.

And almost broke me too.

Since leaving my corporate job to go “all in,” the pressure never stopped.

Every mistake cost me thousands.

Margins kept shrinking.

And fear sat in my chest: what if this all collapsed?

At any moment, I could have walked away.

Wouldn’t admitting failure make me a fraud?

Only when I lost thousands on dead stock did I face the truth.

I had convinced myself more products meant more sales.

But more products only meant more problems.

As entrepreneurs, we take on too much.

I thought I could do it all. I couldn’t.

So I stripped everything back.

Here’s what I did:

First, I checked where the money came from.
 80% of sales came from 1 hero product.
 I cut the rest.

Second, I stopped chasing what others said I “needed.”
 No endless SKUs. No big teams.
 Just simple work.

Third, I stopped guessing.
 No more boxes sitting in a warehouse.
 I sold first. Produced later.

Fourth, I made a way to sell on repeat.
 Simple words. Clear pricing.
 No chaos.

And last? I stayed focused.

 The hardest part.

 But simple was the only way I got my life back.

And just like that, things shifted.

I had time with my son. My husband. My dogs. My family. My friends. MEEEE

I wasn’t weighed down by boxes.

I finally had profit and peace together.

Now, my mission is to help founders skip the pain.

To launch lean.

To sell before they spend.

To build brands that give freedom, not burnout.

To many it probably sounds crazy but it works! 

Yesterday I spent time with the co-founders of MindKonnect UK 

We’re building a solution to address the time is takes anyone seeking help to talk to a mental health specialist, especially in UK given the (dare I say insane) NHS waiting time. The system is currently quite broken.

When I started Soulfeet, I didn’t have either.

It was just me.

A landing page I made myself.

Photos I took of my own feet on my iPhone .
 
And my 1.5 yr old son napping next to me. 

I didn’t buy stock.
