In 2008 I resigned from a ‘stable’ job. In the middle of a collapsing global economy.

→headlines screamed recession.
→people losing jobs overnight.
→Everyone said: “You’ll regret it.”

But I left anyway.

I traded long-term security for a one-year contract.
2 mortgages.
A paycheck-to-paycheck life.
2 kids growing fast—with dreams that couldn’t wait.

It wasn’t logical.

→ Link confidence to a gesture (like pressing thumb to finger)

→ When someone takes credit for your work, ask:
→ “Can you clarify what part you handled?”
Precision cuts through distortion.

→ Shift “I’m bad at confrontation”
→ To: “I’m learning to lead with clarity”
New belief = new result.

8. 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐝𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐫
→ Ask: “What’s their positive intent?”
→ Helps you respond, not react
Especially helpful with narcissists or interrupters.

9. 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬
→ Procrastinating? Don’t say “I’m lazy”
→ Say: “What’s the smallest step I can do now?”
Progress lives in micro-movements.

They told her to wait her turn.

When was the last time you asked yourself "when is my time?"

I was hired to design an English curriculum.

In a brand-new, state-of-the-art university in Saudi Arabia.

Landed. New country. New rules. New expectations.

I thought I was just here to set up the department.
Align some learning outcomes. Build the teaching sequence. Train teachers.

But the truth?
I had no idea what I was walking into.

The students weren’t excited.
The staff were skeptical.
And no one truly believed English would 'actually' matter.

→ I saw boys showing up late.
→ Girls hiding in the back row.
→ Families pushing their kids to memorize grammar for prestige, not mastery.

No one was ready for the future.

No one saw what English could 'really' unlock.

But I stayed.

1 year turned into 3.
3 turned into 7.
7 turned into over a decade.

I was promoted 5 times.
Became Country Executive Director.
Built a program that served over 10,000 students.

But the greatest win wasn’t the title. Or the scale.

It was the shift.

We stopped teaching English like a subject.

For 10 years…

I existed on LinkedIn.
Quietly.

I had a job title. A profile photo. A few lines in my bio.

But none of it reflected who I actually was.
It reflected what the company needed me to be.

I wasn’t hiding.

But they shaped me into the leader I am today.

Nobody knew this about me.

I hosted 7 French bulldogs in my house for almost two years.

Every hallway had chew toys.
Every morning started with barking.
Every inch of my sofa? Claimed.

It wasn’t a pet obsession. It was a mother’s promise.

Because my son came home one day holding this tiny, wide-eyed pup in his arms.

“This is Sterling,” he said. “He’s staying.”

Before I could answer, he added:

“It’s either both of us… or neither of us.”

I was stunned.

Growing up, dogs were always a hard no in our house.

Hair, smell, noise, mess.

No dogs. No exceptions. Not my thing.

But here he was. Older now. With a spark in his eye I hadn’t seen in a long time.

He didn’t want the office life.
He didn’t want the 9–5.
He had a degree. Sure.

But his dream? Was to build a life with dogs.

I wanted to say no. I 𝐚𝐥𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 said no.

But I looked at him—his courage, his commitment—and I realized:

He didn’t need my permission.

He needed my belief.

So we said yes.

Yes to the mess. Yes to the madness. Yes to the 7 bulldogs that eventually filled our home.

Every time we doubted it, we doubled down.

Every time it felt ridiculous, we reminded ourselves why we started.

And fast forward?

My son now runs one of the best luxury dog hotel in North Africa.

He has built a sanctuary. A business. A purpose.

All because someone—finally—believed in the unbelievable.

I share this story with every one. Not to brag.

But because I’ve learned:

Your dream might sound silly to others.

Too risky. Too weird. Too unconventional.

But what it really needs? someone to say:

“I see it. I believe in it. Let’s go.”

And until 𝐲𝐨𝐮 believe in it fully?

Borrow my belief.

Because belief has energy.
Belief builds vision.
Belief builds empires.

Make your point in one or two strong sentences. 
Example: “If we invest in X now, we’ll save triple by Q4.” 
 ↳ Result: You’re easy to remember—and so is your idea.

4- 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭 
Trust and integrity matter as much as skill. Deliver on promises. Protect confidential information. Follow through. 
 ↳ Result: When your name comes up, people listen.

5- 𝐁𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞
 Connect people, ideas, and opportunities. 
Share what you’re seeing in other projects, industries, or markets. 
 ↳ Result: You’re seen as someone who opens doors and creates opportunities for the whole team.

6- 𝐀𝐬𝐤 𝐁𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 
Don’t just bring solutions—ask questions that make your boss think bigger. Example: “What would it look like if we expanded this regionally?” 
 ↳Result: You’re seen as a partner in shaping the vision.

7- 𝐎𝐰𝐧 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐀𝐫𝐞𝐚 
Be the person everyone goes to for one key topic. Compliance, market trends, or transformation—own it. 
 ↳ Result: When that subject comes up, your name is the first they think of.

11 Mindset Shift So Necessary For Moving To Leadership

𝐓𝐡𝐞 #1 𝐓𝐨𝐩 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬' 𝐒𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐫 𝐈𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐁𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐭. 𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬.

Hint: it’s not feeling lazy once in a while. It's:

Not. Asking. For. The. Promotion.

When she reached out to me, my high-achiever client was exhausted.

She was:

↖ Consistently performing above her job description
↖ Easily convinced to join every “special” project
↖ Happily taking on tasks beyond her scope

Because no one will value 

your extra hours, 
outstanding results 
or flawless delivery… 

until you do.

Here’s the 6-step plan we used to change her trajectory:

1. Study her Job Description in detail
2. Take 2–3 stretch tasks -- temporarily
3. Deliver with purpose - to prove her ability
4. Share outcome metrics with her boss- weekly
5. Update her Linkedin with short reports on these
6. Make the ask - position upgrade + salary adjustment.
(Tip: never make the mistake of asking for one w/o the other)

She tried this for 60 days. By week 7, she had an offer in hand.

and HR from her company Head Office down to negotiation with her.

Discipline yourself to value the assets you bring: your 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞, 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲, and 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭.

And when you ask for that promotion, lead with the results only you could deliver.
