Most personal branding strategists will tell you to write "better hooks."

Over the past few years working with executives across the world, I've watched what actually makes someone stop scrolling.

I've lived in five countries. Built businesses in two. Watched markets crash, clients disappear, and entire industries shift overnight.

Through all of it, one thing stayed constant:

Not because they had better skills. Not because they worked harder. Because when everything else became uncertain, trust didn't.

I saw this most clearly in Dubai.

When 2020 hit, budgets froze. Marketing spend vanished. Pipelines dried up overnight.

The positioning mistake I see most often: senior leaders think authority comes from proving they're successful.
It doesn't.

Authority comes from demonstrating you understand the exact problem your ideal client is facing and can articulate the path to solving it more clearly than they can themselves.
That requires different content than "here's my career story."
It requires showing your judgment about the problems that exist in your market right now.

➔ What's being overestimated. 
➔ What's being ignored. 
➔ Where the real risk is.

When I work with a new client, the first month isn't about posting.
It's about extracting their positioning: 
What do you want to be known for that's different from what you're already known for offline?
Because if your LinkedIn just replicates your offline reputation, you've missed the opportunity.

Online visibility should extend your authority in the direction your business is going, not document where it's been.

Five Personal branding myths we don't believe.

I met Emily D. at a mastermind two weeks ago.

Here's what we don't believe:
1. That vulnerability means oversharing.
Strategic vulnerability builds trust. Performative vulnerability builds followers.
There's a difference between sharing the lesson from a hard decision and broadcasting every struggle for engagement.

Vulnerability isn't about how much you reveal. It's about what the reveal demonstrates about how you think.


2. That personal branding is about being relatable.

The more senior someone's audience, the less their journey matters and the more their judgment does. 
Premium clients aren't buying your story. They're buying your ability to see what they can't.


3. That follower count determines revenue.
Emily has 30K followers. I have 27K. Our client value is nearly identical.
The metric that matters isn't reach. 
It's whether the right people trust you enough to refer you when your name comes up in rooms you're not in.


4. That your brand should appeal to everyone.
The moment we each stopped trying to be for everyone, revenue doubled.
Repelling the wrong clients matters as much as attracting the right ones. 
Clarity costs you the people who were never going to buy anyway.


5. That positioning is a one-time decision.
What we wanted to be known for in Year 1 isn't what drives revenue in Year 2.
Your business evolves. Your positioning should too.

The pattern we both see: senior leaders who scale fastest aren't following generic LinkedIn advice.

The question isn't how many people reacted.
It's whether the decision-makers are watching even when you have no way to measure it.

That silence you're reading as disinterest?
It might be the most valuable attention your content will ever receive.

Most people think Ramadan is just about fasting.

It’s not.

It’s about restraint in a world that rewards excess.

In the GCC, you can feel the shift instantly.

The mornings are quieter.
The pace softens.
The cafés close.
The music lowers.

But something else rises.
Patience.
Intentionality.
Generosity.

Strangers say “Ramadan Mubarak” like they’ve known you for years.
Restaurants prepare free Iftar meals before sunset.
Families plan their entire day around one shared moment.

The Maghrib call to prayer hits and the whole city exhales at once.

Traffic pauses.
Dates are passed around.
Water tastes different.

You realize how much of life we rush through.
Ramadan interrupts that.

It forces you to sit with hunger.
With silence.
With yourself.

And in that stillness, things become clearer.
What matters.
What doesn’t.
What you need to let go of.

It’s less about deprivation.
More about alignment.

Less about ritual.
More about awareness.

Even if you’re not fasting, you feel it.
The discipline.
The softness.
The generosity.

Maybe that’s the real gift of Ramadan:
A reminder that slowing down isn’t weakness.
It’s recalibration.

The market pays differently when you're seen differently.

I didn’t learn that from a course.

I learned it from investing in rooms that stretched me.

Masterminds.
Private programs.
Mentors operating at a level I hadn’t reached yet.

For a long time, I thought I was investing in education.

I wasn’t.

I was investing in acceleration.

Every time I stepped into a room where I wasn’t the most experienced person, something shifted:

If growth feels heavier than it should, it’s rarely just strategy.

The first team I built almost destroyed my agency.


I hired fast.

So I built a team again.

But this time I changed one rule:
I stopped hiring to reduce costs.
I started hiring to multiply capacity.
Then I changed how I led.

Instead of giving people tasks, I gave them problems.
Old approach:
“Write this landing page.”

New approach:
“Our demo conversion rate is 11%.
We need 20%.

Fix it.”

Tasks create dependency.
Problems create ownership.
And ownership removes bottlenecks.

Once my team owned outcomes, something changed.
Decisions moved faster.
Ideas improved.
Execution multiplied.

And I stopped being the ceiling.

The result?
20x revenue.

Not because I worked harder.
Because I finally got out of the way.

Most founders think growth comes from working more.
In reality, it comes from needing yourself less.

I wasn't always a personal branding strategist.

I wasn't always building a business on my own terms.

Before this, I was in marketing.

I used what I had and worked around my reality.

3 lessons I learned from that phase:

→ Your network is your runway.
The relationships I built before I needed them became the foundation of everything.

→ Freedom isn't given. It's designed.
No one hands you autonomy. You have to create the conditions for it.

→ Belief compounds before results do.
I believed I could do this long before I had proof. That belief carried me through the uncertain months.

Looking back, that marketing job didn't limit me.
It trained me.
