At Capgemini Invent, I worked under the Director of North American Electric Vehicle (EV) and Connected Automotive clientele. More specifically, I supported data analytics, strategic recommendations, and sales initiatives within the EV and Connected Auto space. This required high proficiency with data analysis (Excel, Python, SQL, etc.) and client delivery tools (PowerPoint, Muro/Mural, Canvas, Figma, MailChimp/beehiiv, etc.). Some of my notable achievements include:

- Analyzed 4000+ vehicle fleet and regional transportation data to establish emergency deployment plan and electric vehicle (EV) purchasing strategy for major utility company
- Evaluated sensor data, equipment APIs, and production throughput to develop 2-year roadmap for implementing “digital twin” facility simulations at 7 manufacturing plants
- Designed, wrote, and launched internal newsletter covering ‘connected consumer’ news and insights from 4 priority sectors and feature pieces authored by industry experts

Remora

Remora is a climate tech startup based in Southeast Michigan. They build a device that directly captures a semi-truck's carbon emissions from the tailpipe. The company is composed of engineers, scientists, and entrepreneurs who are passionate about solving the climate crisis. They are working hard to make a real difference in the world, and they are excited to be a part of the solution.

At Remora, I led the minimal viable product (MVP) testing, analysis, and sourcing for the truck exhaust heat exchanger. The testing and analysis procedures required an in depth understanding of mechanical engineering principles, material & fluid properties, and data capture & visualization. Alternatively, the sourcing required constant communication with automotive parts suppliers and development of organizational tools for part tracking & budget management. Finally, the position required a high level of organization, scheduling, and cross-team communication because I was a full-time student during this internship. Some of my notable achievements include:

- Achieved 80% aggregate emission reduction over multiple test trials throughout internship
- Shared weekly progress updates and presented organized test data to C-suite executives
- Utilized machine shop tooling, scrap materials, and microcontrollers to rapidly and affordably construct test fixtures for measuring environmental data with thermocouples, infrared sensors, and flow meters

Mechanical Engineer (YC W21)

Whirlpool Corporation

Whirlpool is an appliance company headquartered in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Since the midwest is known for its automotive industry, Whirlpool adopted a culture that is centered around manufacturing. So, they created their Manufacturing Leadership Development Program (MLDP) to encourage technically minded individuals to improve their leadership qualities and manufacturing expertise.

I was one of 4 MLDP interns that joined Whirlpool’s Cleveland, TN manufacturing plant. There, I took on an Industrial Engineering (IE) role. I selected this particular project because it allowed me to have the greatest impact and conduct business analysis in a technical setting.

Specifically, I standardized the stainless steel finishing (SSF) process. Before I started my project, this process was a bottleneck in the facility. As a result, there were many opportunities for improvement, and I was given freedom to drive change wherever I saw fit. When implementing these changes, I employed a variety of analytical tools and Lean manufacturing techniques. For example, I utilized MODAPTs analysis and least squares linear regressions (LSRL) to accurately track and associate defects with added cycle times. I further applied critical analysis in order to convert safety, quality, and delivery improvements into savings for company Kaizens. Through my initiatives, I generated over $100,000 of savings, and increased overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) by 19%. Beyond my development as an IE, I significantly improved soft skills. Specifically, I delivered multiple presentations to the plant leadership team and organized a group of over 20 machine operators to develop new Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Overall, my Whirlpool IE internship challenged me to quickly acclimate to the manufacturing setting. However, my people skills and strong analytical foundation helped me quickly acclimate and confidently deliver results.

Industrial Engineer - Manufacturing Leadership Development Program

Eaton

The University of Michigan collaborates with its faculty members and prominent companies to recruit students into its Multidisciplinary Design Program. The projects are centered around uniting a diverse group of qualified students and supporting their efforts to solve real world problems.

I was one of six students chosen to participate on a research team sponsored by Eaton, and one of two students selected for the continued summer research. Our project goal was to adapt airplane thermal management systems to the increased electrification of the aviation industry. More specifically, we attempted to make the thermal management systems more sustainable by repurposing the waste heat from the onboard electrical bays. In this role, I significantly developed my technical and professional skills and became very comfortable in a project management role.

We were required to understand a new industry and conduct root cause analysis to address critical issues. This problem solving process demanded that I read many technical documents dealing with aircraft schematics and material and fluid breakdowns. I utilized this research to conduct a thorough, numbers-driven material and fluid selection process. Furthermore, I regularly performed system analysis using Ansys modeling software and thermodynamic calculations in Microsoft Excel. Along with analytical and technical development, the Multidisciplinary Design Program assured that students improve their professional conduct. I frequently presented project proposals and design reviews to our corporate sponsor for rigorous assessment. Moreover, I helped maintain an organized, shared library of the relevant documents to the team's yearlong project.

R&D Engineer

HARMAN International

Harman is an international company that designs a wide range of products for automotive, corporate, and consumer applications. Notably, they collaborate with JBL to engineer exceptional audio devices. Additionally, their Connected Car software can be found in millions of modern cars.

In preparation for this role, I learned about the requirements and daily tasks of a Quality Engineer. Specifically, I studied ASPICE standards and different project protocols. However, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the in-person portion of my internship was cancelled. Nevertheless, Harman provided many virtual experiences for interns throughout the summer. Namely, they held sessions discussing unconscious bias, acoustics basics, and automotive infotainment testing, and they organized a women in business panel. Although these remote workshops could not entirely replace an internship experience, they significantly developed my technical and professional skills. Specifically, I learned a lot about the intersection between audio and engineering through the acoustics basics course. Furthermore, I greatly improved my professional skills through the unconscious bias session and women in business panel. Both experiences shared important information about minorities in the workplace. This provided me with extremely valuable insight on how to foster positive workplace relationships.

Quality Engineer

Walmart

The University of Michigan collaborated with Walmart's eCommerce division to organize a month-long summer development program: Wolverine eX eCommerce Analytics. This program focused on developing skills for the modern business world. Specifically, it concentrated on communication, digital, and relationship-building skills and cumulated with a case study.

This experience took me outside of my comfort zone multiple times. The relationship-building workshop was centered around intercultural fluency. Although the University of Michigan holds regular diversity and inclusion sessions, this particular conversation led to a much greater realization of the effects of unconscious bias and how I can continue to grow in my receptiveness to others. We were challenged with setting two specific goals for our upcoming semester, which helped me better understand how I can continue to take steps toward creating positive and inclusive environments for others.

The case competition challenged me to address problems dealing with business and marketing. Specifically, I investigated marketing and eCommerce strategies to evaluate a case centered around developing pricing models based on Amazon's competitive pricing and designing a new Walmart shopping UX. I thoroughly enjoyed taking on this case competition because it tested my critical thinking skills and allowed me to apply my analytical thought processes to a new field.

Tappy

Tappy is a startup based in Madrid. The company's team of four MBA students created a smart tap that provides bar service without a bartender. Their application allows a customer to purchase their preferred beverage and instructs them on how to pour the drink in a hands-free manner. Tappy is utilized at public events such as concerts and various conventions. However, it became increasingly relevant during the COVID pandemic because it provides an outdoor, distanced way of socializing.

I connected with Tappy through an international internship program. This program shared my application with foreign companies, and the founders at Tappy selected me to take on their engineering challenge. I was tasked with designing a mechanism that could communicate with the smart tap to autonomously pour a beverage. This project was particularly challenging because a Spanish beer needs to be poured in a specific manner. Thus, my mechanism had to operate within a clearly defined range of motion in an efficient way.

This experience heavily challenged my technical, communication, and entrepreneurial skills. I significantly improved my modeling abilities because I regularly sketched designs and rendered them in Solidworks. Furthermore, I developed a strong understanding of 3D printing as I utilized this technology during the prototyping phase. I also greatly improved my communication skills because my coworkers and I conversed in Spanish. This mild language barrier dramatically improved my Spanish speaking and visual learning abilities. Finally, this internship enhanced my entrepreneurial knowledge. I closely interacted with the four founders and regularly attended strategy meetings and marketing events. These experiences significantly improved my understanding of how to develop a business plan and improve brand recognition.

Bala Consulting Engineers

Bala Consulting Engineers is a Professional Engineering (PE) firm that executes various large-scale, corporate construction projects. They are located in Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington DC, and they have four engineering departments: Mechanical, Structural, Electrical, and Plumbing and Fire Protection.

During my internship, I spent the internship with PE's in each department. I was able to shadow many employees, attend executive meetings, take on individual projects, and attend site visits. In these roles, I learned about the technical and personal skills expected of an engineer in a construction consulting setting. For my day-to-day work, I was primarily tasked with designing and modifying building elements using Revit modeling software. Additionally on site visits, I examined the progress of various technical and logistical projects and learned about the hands-on aspects of a PE.
