Economics and software don’t seem related. So, you might ask: how did I end up as a software product manager with a BA in Economics? A high school teacher once told me: “Economics is the science of decision making when money (or utility) is keeping score.” And so I used this framework to gain an advantage in building software. I came to understand early on in my career that most users don’t care about the ingenuity of your code. They care, instead, about how much frictionless utility your product brings them. You might also ask: why did I go into sales? Money is keeping score. I'm a fan of Business Development because it feels like a mental sport. I enjoy meeting new founders and professionals. I like learning about different types of businesses and how people are building them. And most of all, I enjoy putting myself in uncomfortable situations that force growth (I used to be fairly introverted). I also knew that one day I was going to build a business of my own and I figured I’d learn everything I could as I engaged with different founders and operators. I’ve learned a lot about what not to do (and had a few successes along the way), so let me know if you need help building software, a go-to-market strategy, or a combination of both.
