Seeing Meta CPMs 2.5X leading up to BF this year compared to last.

Even though US online sales still growing YoY (projected at 8% this year), it's not double digit growth like last year. 

This explains the CPM increases, brands setting big YoY goals but growth not coming as easy so you push on paid ads as easiest last minute lever causing everyone's price to go up. 

This trend will continue next year I believe. "Season pull forward" is becoming a bigger thing. Companies pushing early deals end of Oct/early Nov which pulls demand forward. By the time Black Friday hits, a chunk of discretionary spend is already gone, which caps BF’s growth even if the day is still massive.

This has happened to me so many times over the years and my answer is the same. 

You have a....

Different product.

Different price point.

Different buying cycle.

But somehow that new flashy channel is going to save your business. 

Truth: You don’t pick a channel for your product. Your product already picked the channel the day you built it.

Here's a simple framework for channel selection....

Price 
Under $100: impulse channels win. Meta, TikTok, YouTube shorts. Fast scroll, fast decision. Direct response ads relying mostly on last click attribution (decision window short), clear tracking needed so you can unlock huge spend and scale. For SaaS, expect fast trials but slower conversion. Don’t confuse activation with revenue.

$100–$500: mixed. Meta works, Google intent starts to matter, retargeting actually pays off. Decision window lengthens so attribution becomes harder to prove. Deeper analytics tech stack needed to scale. If recurring, LTV starts carrying the weight and you can afford to pay for higher CAC. 

$1000+: no one impulse buys. You need intent, lots of good social proof, conversations. Heavy Google ads spend, Linkedin paid and organic, YouTube long-form, email, webinars, workshops. Understanding LTV by channel becomes the most important for recurring purchases here, decisions take a while and paid conversions are harder to track. 

Market
B2C: you live and die on attention platforms. Meta, TikTok, YouTube.

B2B: you win where intent and trust matter. Google Search, LinkedIn, partners, outbound.

If your paid growth feels off it's usually not the tactics but deeper issue of channel fit.

If that part is wrong nothing else works.
