And my heart is full ❤️

I didn’t leave the corporate banking world in 2018 just to recreate the same "on 24/7" hustle for myself.

1️⃣ The brain dump

Grab a piece of paper and split it down the middle…

One side is for life
The other for work. 

Get everything out of your head and onto the page. 

When you can see it all clearly, it often feels less overwhelming.

2️⃣ Respectfully, fk the frog 🙃

Most productivity experts tell you to do the hardest task first. 

I disagree.

I tick off EASY tasks first to build momentum.

✅ 10 minutes clearing the inbox clutter.
✅ Follow up with 3 client enquiries.
✅ Check in with my mastermind clients.

Once the small wins are in the bag, there’s fuel to crack on with the bigger tasks.

3️⃣ Prioritise basics

No matter how long the list is, you still need to breathe. Fresh air, a walk, and enough water are non-negotiable. 

Self-care isn’t selfish. 

It gives you fuel to actually get the work done productively and efficiently.

What’s your go-to checklist for getting back into the swing of things after a break?

When you wake up in the morning and feel the need to have a “sort out”.

Weirdly maybe, I’ve always found filing quite therapeutic.

Whilst it may seem small, not having to decide what’s for dinner every day really helps me to make better decisions elsewhere in both business and life.

Most self-employed people take LESS THAN TWENTY days off a year* 😭

Let that sink in.

It’s LESS than the statutory minimum.

And this HAS to change.

Rewind to my corporate days - 25 days a year was NEVER enough.

So why are you being the worst boss you’ve ever had?

Working yourself into the ground - setting yourself up for burnout? 🤷‍♀️

I’ll tell you why.

Because whilst you’re fkn epic at what you do for your clients.

The business stuff?

Is a bit of a sh*t show.

What’s more?

You’ve never intentionally designed your business to see you stacking your income AND taking space for mid-week spa breaks, and 2 week holidays every quarter.

The reality is, business owners are tired.

But how the hell do you find space for all of life + the rest required for happiness, with less than 20 days off a year (or none at all 😏)

It’s time to stop being the worst boss you’ve ever had and actually give yourself the space you deserve to live your life.

And how do you do this guilt free?

By intentionally creating a business that sees you stacking your income - not your time.

I spent over a decade in banking working 50+ hr weeks, and was constantly sick.

Migraines. Colds. Body aches. Anxiety.

And now?

Before the 10 weeks “holiday” I give myself per year...

I work a 4 day week - which means I automatically have 52 days off a year.

* FIFTY-TWO DAYS *

More than DOUBLE what I’d ever be given in corporate.

And my salary?

More than double what I EVER earned in banking too.

And my health?

Bette than ever too.

What’s more?

I now choose to work hard AND rest hard.

Because to be the best coach and mentor for my clients.

To be present for my loved ones and for myself.

I need space to recharge - not hustle.

I’m so grateful that I took the risk to start working for myself back in 2018, and do my own thing so I could be flexible to work, be well AND live.

I’m also very grateful that my family and friends always cheered me on to take the leap into entrepreneurship.

Because if I’m honest…

I was never meant to be tied to corporate rules and shackles.

And I was never ok having to ask permission to leave the office 10 mins early, when I already worked 10-15 hour a week over my contracted hours anyway 🙃

Respectfully, no.

I used to be a sucker for thinking that if it only took me a few minutes to reply, I might as well just do it. I thought I was being helpful, but I was actually devaluing my expertise.

But now, I know better.

You’re never paying an expert for how long it takes someone to answer.

You’re investing in the years of experience, the thousands of pounds in training, and the thousands of hours it took them to be able to answer your "quick" question in seconds.

And the shortcut that will get you the solution way fkn quicker.

If you need a template to reply to people who are looking for free sh*t, here is exactly what I say:

"Great to hear from you! I would love to help you with this on an advisory basis. We should be able to cover this in 30 minutes, which is £250, or if you would like more depth, 60 minutes is £497.

If you would like to book a paid session, let me know and I can send you the booking link."

Simples.

I honestly don’t know how I survived on only 25 days holiday a year.

Looking back at my calendar this year, I’ve already had 25 days off and we’re only 2 months in.  

And no, I’m not including weekends. 

It got me thinking about how much my life has changed since leaving the corporate banking world 8 years ago.

If I were still a corporate employee?

I would be stuck asking for permission to leave 30 mins early lol.

I used to be told I should be more flexible because I was young or didn’t have children. 

I did that for over 10 years, regularly hitting 50 hour weeks until my body gave up.

Back then, I was constantly dealing with migraines, body aches, and chronic anxiety.

Now, as a business owner, things look very different.

Before even counting the 10 weeks of holiday I give myself every year, I work a 3.5 day week. 

That automatically gives me 78 extra days off a year to rest and recharge.

That’s MORE than double the time off I ever had in banking, and my income…

That’s doubled too.

The best part? 

Those migraines and body aches have almost entirely disappeared.

I’ve learned that to be the best business coach and mentor for my clients, I have to prioritize my own well-being.

To be present for my loved ones, I need space, not more hustle.

Taking the risk to start my own business in 2018 was the best decision I EVER made. 

I am so grateful to the friends and family who cheered me on to choose entrepreneurship over corporate rules.

If you’re a UK-based freelancer aiming for stable £5k months in 2026, we need to talk about your math 🧮

Specifically, why I don’t think you should ever charge under £30 per hour.

If anyone tells you otherwise, tell them a Business Strategist warned you (obvs, you can disagree - I’m not here to tell you what to do!)

💡 BUT LET'S LOOK AT THE NUMBERS.

Let's look at why the safe £30/hr rate makes a £5k month almost IMPOSSIBLE.

THE BEST-CASE SCENARIO: If you work a full corporate-style week (7.5 hours a day), you’d make £1,125 a week. 

Work 48 weeks a year? That’s £54,000.

You’re already £6,000 short of your £60k annual goal, and we haven’t even touched the reality of running a business yet 😣

SO HERE’S THE REALITY CHECK.

You aren't billing for 100% of your time. 

You also have admin, marketing, and the general "business stuff” to do.

Let’s be optimistic and say all that “stuff”takes just one day a week 👀

Your annual turnover for billable time is now £43,200 💸

Next we need to look at what you actually PAY yourself. 

So take away expenses: Insurance, software, equipment etc.

At a healthy 80% profit margin your taxable profit is now £34,560. 

Doesn’t sound as sexy as £54k does it?

But we haven’t finished there.

After Tax and NI - you now only see around £28,400 in your bank account a YEAR.

So those £5k months you wanted? 
They are actually £2,300 months…

PLUS that £34k only happens if your year is FLAWLESS (which, let's be honest, never happens)

No sick days
No gaps between projects
No slower months (summer holidays/xmas)
No unpaid invoices

If you’re charging £30 an hour as an online service provider, consultant or coach, you’re trading your genius for a survival strategy, not a £5k month strategy.

The math is seriously rigged against the "hourly" freelancer.

If you want 2026 to be the year you actually hit those £5k months without heading for burnout, you have to stop selling "hours" and start selling the results your clients get.
