Created and published three children's books on food allergies - "Allie the Allergic Elephant: A Children’s Story of Peanut Allergies", "Cody the Allergic Cow: A Children’s Story of Milk Allergies" and "Chad the Allergic Chipmunk: A Children’s Story of Nut Allergies" - and 5 posters establishing Nut-Free Zones in schools, churches and camps. Created the website, AllergicChild.com, and wrote a monthly newsletter and blog helping families and communities manage food allergies. 

Became a founding member of my school district’s Food Allergy Task Force and continue to be an active participant while helping other parents create Food Allergy Task Forces in their communities across the country. Driving force behind getting Senate Bill 09-226, “The Colorado School Children's Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Management Policy Act,” introduced and passed by the Colorado state legislature. Two years of meeting with senators, representatives, and board members of the Colorado Department of Education culminated in the bill being signed into law by Governor Bill Ritter during Food Allergy Awareness Week in 2009.The law requires all Colorado school districts to have a policy to keep food allergic children safe at school.

FAACT, Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Connection Team

I bring almost two decades of experience managing food allergies to FAACT. The mission of the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Connection Team (FAACT) is to educate, advocate, and raise awareness for families and individuals affected by food allergies and life-threatening anaphylaxis. I provide leadership for all of FAACT’s legislative initiatives and to the new frontier of creating safe experiences for college students managing food allergies. Additionally, I will be working with airlines to establish a unified policy that will allow all food-allergic children and adults to travel safely. Lastly, I am working with the Boy Scouts of America to ensure that all boys with food allergies can enjoy safe excursions while participating in all of the adventures of Scouting.

I am the parent of a severely food allergic son, Morgan, diagnosed at the age of 9 months old in 1996 and a daughter, Michaela, diagnosed with celiac disease and a mast cell disorder several years ago.
