Treasury training for the HSBC and Midland Bank Group is conducted centrally from Bricket Wood in the United Kingdom. Part of a team of 3 with a responsibility for training in foreign exchange and financial markets products and techniques throughout the Group. Up to 12 different courses are offered ranging from introductory level treasury products and concepts through to advanced trading courses. I was the lead trainer for the courses on Market Risk Management and Corporate Finance. Employed by GTMD to move from Australia, my contract expired in May, 1997. Over the two years, I conducted training in Canada, India, UAE, Greece, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia and Hong Kong clocking over 300,000 airmiles, over 60 courses and trained 1,100 HSBC employees.

HKB Managed Funds has a variety of unit trusts and discretionary funds management activities of around $700 million in assets. The cash management trusts comprise of a AAA and an A rated fund which have been best performer of their asset class since inception in the Mercers survey. In addition to the CMT's, there were discretionary asset portfolio's with broader investment powers as well as currency risk management for the Australian Tourist Commission, where we performed the finance function as a delegated authority. I was instrumental in obtaining the approved local Government status for the funds and services.

Treasury Financial Services (TFS) is a client risk management advisory services within the Treasury of HongkongBank of Australia. As the Sydney manager, I advised clients on treasury policy, risk management products and techniques in a range of engagements from advisory through to discretionary specific sector treasury management. Mandates included currency management, debt advisory and asset portfolio's including the application of derivatives.

Joined the Banque to establish an investment management company targeted primarily at corporate and wholesale investment management activities principally in Australian dollar fixed interest investments. The establishment of the company involved incorporation, registration with Corporate Affairs Commission, internal procedures, EDP systems, documentation, client reporting, and performance measurement.
With the first account, I assumed responsibility for all investment dealing activities including strategy, investment selection and execution. The activity expanded to included domestic equities, currency deposits and forwards, together with bonds and financial futures but only options on equities. I retained control of all fixed interest portfolio activities and foreign currency positions that was 75% of the total funds.

I moved to Chemical Bank to enhance my knowledge of Foreign Exchange and Forward Currency markets. Sydney was the regional trading operation after Tokyo and consisted of 15 dealers involved in spot and forward price making together with swaps. Sydney was part of the Chemical Bank global trading centres.I was recruited to control the domestic funding of the operation and was able to use domestic market instruments or forward currency and swaps. In addition, I conducted a futures and bank bill trading book together with a bond lending and repurchase activity to support the swaps operation.
Chemical Bank withdrew from Australia to concentrate their Asian operations from Tokyo.
