The 2016 throwback is hype on the gram and the tok.

Or should I say IN.

2️⃣0️⃣1️⃣6️⃣: 
Back in 2016, I was working deep in tech and coding.
Choosing stability over curiosity because that felt like the smart move.

I got to work in a new country.
The Netherlands.
New language. New systems. New everything.

That year, I traveled across 7 countries and about 16 cities.
Trying to build a life.
Trying to figure myself out.

I was learning fast.
But mostly, I was learning how to survive.

Somewhere in between all of that, I discovered my passion for marketing.
Quietly.
Before I felt ready.
Before I felt confident.

I started planning my move from engineer to marketer without a clear roadmap. Just momentum.

I said yes more than I wanted to.
Because I thought that’s what growth required.

The ambition was always there.
The confidence was still buffering.

Fast forward to 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣6️⃣ .
My passion as an engineer never went away.
With RevOps and AI, I’m not leaving tech behind.
I’m combining the two things I love most.
Technology and marketing.

I get to work with some truly amazing people now at Lyra Technology Group ( Mallory, Nurzhan, Marlena, Jake, Mario and so many others) 
And I’ve learned how to say no.
And how to say yes only when it actually feels right.

I launched the Hustle and Heart podcast with my person, Anna.
Still feels a little surreal saying that out loud.


My work has shifted.
From execution to strategy.
From proving to guiding.
Started building with purpose instead of permission.

Supporting immigrant founders, women, and underestimated builders is no longer just part of my work.
It’s the point.

I’m still learning.
Still evolving.
Just a lot more intentional about it now.

The confidence didn’t get louder.
It got steadier.
Quieter.
Stronger.

If you invite me to another networking event right now, I’ll RSVP “maybe” and emotionally sprint in the opposite direction.

Last year, I said yes to a lot of women’s events, tech events, wellness events, finance events. And if I’m being honest, most of them left me feeling drained, exhausted(mentally and physically) and not connected.

Same formula.
Same panels.
Same gift bags.
Same five minute conversations that require weeks of follow up to maybe turn into something meaningful.

Most of the time, they don’t.

This year, I’m choosing intention over noise.

I want spaces where there’s no pitching, no selling, no performing.
Spaces where we can just be.
Where conversations go deeper than job titles.
Where substance matters more than scale.

Spaces where we actually get to know women at a deeper level and connect over something real.

Here’s the funny part.

I recently joined a sewing class. Purely for myself.
Six women in a room. No agenda. No networking goals.

We talked. We connected. We laughed.

No pitch.
No awkward coffee chat.
No LinkedIn follow up message.

She’s a VP at Deloitte.
She joined the class for the exact same reason I did. To escape the endless conferences, summits and curated “connection.”

That small, intentional space did what dozens of events couldn’t.

If events want people to show up differently, they need to be designed differently.
Smaller.
Slower.
More human.

And honestly, I’ve been feeling this even more since joining Wednesday Women, thanks to Melissa and Leslie. The connections there feel different. Slower. More thoughtful. I’m learning from some truly incredible women, and it reminds me what’s possible when community is built with care.

Connection shouldn’t be performative.
It should feel human.

Because real connection doesn’t happen under fluorescent lights with a name tag.
It happens when people feel safe enough to show up as themselves.

I can’t wait to see what 2026 has in store, but it’s safe to say this is the kind of space many of us are craving.
