Another giant just got hit. CrowdStrike — one of the biggest names in cybersecurity (📈 market cap over $110 BILLION) — has had its NPM packages compromised in a massive supply-chain attack.

This is not a small incident. Over 180 packages have been compromised so far, including:
@crowdstrike/commitlint, @crowdstrike/falcon-shoelace, @crowdstrike/foundry-js, @crowdstrike/logscale-dashboard …and many more.

What this means in plain language:
Attackers injected malware into CrowdStrike’s code packages used by developers worldwide.

The malware’s goal? Steal credentials via a free webhook service (meaning the data could become public).

Even though the data exfiltration is partly rate-limited, the attack is still ongoing, almost automated — a “zombie attack.”

For a company trusted by over 23,000 organizations worldwide, including a huge portion of the Fortune 500, this is a nightmare scenario.

My take:
This is exactly why I keep saying:

We cannot blindly trust cybersecurity vendors — no matter how big or expensive their solution is.

Technology alone will never be enough. Humans still play a key role in questioning, testing, and catching what automation misses.

Every organization, no matter the size, should regularly hire an independent third party to test their systems and code for vulnerabilities.

Because here’s the uncomfortable truth: if the companies selling cybersecurity can get breached like this, what does that say about the rest of us?

This is not about blaming CrowdStrike alone — I’ve shared similar posts about other vendors recently. 

This is a wake-up call for the entire industry.

Question for you:
What would restore your trust in cybersecurity vendors — independent audits, public disclosures, stricter regulation, or something else entirely?

When was the last time we tested our cyber defenses?

Could we spot an intruder today before they shut us down?

Do we know our security posture — or are we just hoping for the best?
