My main responsibilities:
1. Data wrangling - takes most of my time. Involves data cleaning, data management and preparation. Understanding policies and designing algorithms.
2. Deduce fraud/waste/abuse patterns in medicaid claims data.
3. Applied machine learning models for outlier detection. 
4. Provide actionable leads to our in-house investigators based on data.

Healthcare Data Analyst, Office of Inspector General

The University of Texas at Austin

- Explore EHR systems and ICD-9/10 coding with vendor donated software, namely, Epic, Allscripts, athenaHealth, Cerner, eClinicalWorks, Greenway, LabCorp, OpenEMR, Orion and STC for the Health Informatics and Health IT program 

- Managed and facilitated the first healthcare app design event at UT Austin by providing technical skills and advise on FHIR RESTful API to participants. 

- QueryHealth Pilot project - Texas : Coordinating, collecting specifications and designing the governance structure for the pilot.

- Behavioral Health project - Developing a model to potentially mine EHR data to filter and provide a probabilistic perspective of potential depression patients in a primary care setting. Integrate this model in the physician workflow in a primary care setting.

- In house projects - Embed RSS feeds in a smart monitor. To facilitate/display up-to-date health news for HIHIT program students and invited guests. 

- Create and facilitate pre-lab work for students in the program. This involves making sure the sample test patients are all properly populated in the database of various vendors, merging of test patient records in case of HIE lab exercises and create templates for EHR scenarios to aid students in navigating through different EHRs. 

- Formulate mySql exercises using public data to understand the querying concept of the database given a specific problem. 

- Worked extensively with various EHRs such as Allscripts, Athena, Cerner, eClinicalWorks, Greenway, LabCorp, OpenEMR, Orion, STC.

Research Associate

Developed methodology for building 3d breast geometric models using 3d surface image data, engineering assumptions for the back (resting) surface and other anatomical structures in breast. Used SolidWorks, MeshLab heavily in this process.

Developed and analysed a 3d breast finite element model to simulate natural breast movements under gravitational force. The simulation results capture the explicit changes in both shape and deformation observed during natural breast movements. This model can be improved further by simulating the post surgery looks/appearance for an implant based or tissue-based (autologous tissue) reconstruction surgeries.

Designed and developed an experimental setup to study the hyperelastic behavior of biological planar tissue samples. This setup is currently used in conjunction with a imaging system/camera to extract mechanical parameters for the samples.

Performed digital image correlation (DIC) on images from inflation test on biological specimens to capture in-plane and out-of-plane deformations. 

Developed a more experimentally appropriate 3D finite element based model to optimise the parameters for a non-linear material model based on experimental studies.

Research Engineer

Responsible for ~55 students.

Introduced and helped students understand basic programming concepts in MATLAB.

Developed illustrations of basic MATLAB concepts using examples from Biomedical engineering.

Conducted Exams and graded Lab reports.

Conducted office hours to help students with their homework, Lab assignments and exam preparations.

Prepared lectures on the lab work every week during Lab for common mistakes, problem approach and syntax errors encountered in the Lab assignments.

Teaching Assistant

Designed a biaxial bulge test device to test the mechanical properties of soft tissues (skin). Main components: syringe pump, pressure sensor, acrylic tubed chamber (design done using SolidWorks), imaging system (two SONY XC-55 cameras and two PCI 1409 image acquisition boards).

Used 3d Digital Image Correlation techniques to collect and analyze the experimental data (displacements) from the device.

Developed a 3d circular deformable solid geometric model of the specimen in ABAQUS to simulate the experimental bulge test.

Used inverse method to find the appropriate material parameters of skin tissue based on experimental results obtained from bulge testing and using numerical optimization analysis.

Identified and located 3d rear surface (pectoral muscle surface) of breast from breast Magnetic Resonance (MR) images, to use in computational bio-mechanical breast models. Correlation studies of the developed rear surface’s curvature and thickness with age and weight were performed.

Designed Graphical User Interface (GUI) templates to enable efficient data access for use in research and analysis. Interviewed personnel in 3 different fields: engineering, psychology and surgery to arrive at these templates.

Mentoring TREX (Texas Research Experience program) undergraduate researcher on analyzing CT breast images to obtain breast skin thickness measurements. Statistical analysis on skin thickness measurements obtained from different imaging modalities were performed.

Mentored undergraduate researcher to write and prepare scientific reports and presentations.

Mentored undergraduate biomedical engineering student on the various uses of LabVIEW and provided her with guidance on graphical programming and instrumentation (Spring 2013).
