Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Compile and analyse financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.


Performs statistical analyses to determine trends, estimates, and significant changes, and writes narrative reports explaining findings.

Analyses financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarise and interpret current and projected company financial position for other managers.

Audits contracts, orders, and vouchers, and prepares reports to substantiate individual transactions prior to settlement.


Monitors compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures.

Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.


Makes recommendations regarding the accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures.

Conducts studies and submits recommendations for improving the organisation's business operation.

Manager - Finance & Trade

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

	 To trade on the most favourable terms within the guidelines provided by the Trading Manager.
	 To service the market and at all times identify potential vendors and new market opportunities and strategies to obtain new business to maximize Sims|Metals market share.
	 Maintain service to exisiting vendors by regular visits and telephone contact.
	 Be aware of the company image & represent it to the industry so as to enhance the good name of Sims|Metal.

Skills Essential to Position

	 Ability to liase with fellow staff members
	 Identification of new market opportunites & strategies to obtain new business.
	 Demonstraion of entrepreneurial flair in trading activities.
	 Establish strategies for improving service to existing vendors.
	 Demonstrate an understanding of the total costs of trading, transporting and processing materials and establishing vendor profiles.
	 Ability to assisting Trading Manager in the preparation of budgets & forecasts.
	 A knowledge of company systems & procedures & personal compliance.  Monitor procedures for necessary improvements.

Senior Account Manager

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
						
 Credit Control - Approx $70 million turnover annually.
 Stock control - Approx $9 million.
 Preparation of statutory accounts - Qld & PNG operations.
 Preparation of annual taxation return - PNG.
 Preparation of Fringe Benefits Tax return.
 Preparation of Business Activity Statement.
 Intercompany accounting - operations in NSW, VIC; NT & PNG.
 General Ledger reconciliations - QLD & PNG.
 Management reporting - QLD & PNG.
 Accounting for PNG operation - Approx $4 million turnover annually.
 Fixed asset register management - Approx $23 million.
 Capital expenditure management - maintenance of capital expenditure register and evaluation & analysis of proposed capital expenditure.
 Key Result Analysis (KRA) - analysis of Branches operating results & subsequent performance against budget.
 Supervision of accounting staff.
 Performing internal audits - Review of procedures & implementation of corrective procedures where necessary.
 Information technology support - implementation of software & hardware.
