Recently, I stumbled across an article by @Andy Drake about falling into research, and it instantly clicked with me that I, for one, too fell into research. As a fresh business graduate, with no intention of getting into research, I got into a big utility company and was placed in the strategy department. There, I was handed over the industry research and competitive analysis task to guide a forward-looking strategy to reduce losses and smart metering. Apparently, I was good and soon began to get more such research work. I too was enjoying it. Then I left for my MBA where I formally studied Business Research and did a couple of primary and secondary research, including one for an Agricultural giant to consult on new product development and launch. During my MBA, I joined an international startup on a freelance basis where again someone saw the potential and soon I became the go-to person for Market Intelligence decks and reports to U.S.-based clients from diverse industries. I also led and trained cross-cultural teams in research. I enjoyed 5 wholesome years of growth there, and simultaneously kicked-off my independent consultant journey on Upwork where I helped my clients with competition analysis and industry research. Tractions like being top 10% of talent, 100% job success score, a 5-star rating, and feedback like below, helped me push forward. "Thanks for your hard work on this, it was the best. As I reflect on my journey, I realize that I love research because it is progressive, much like myself. So, although I fell into it, I stuck to my calling and chose to upskill myself in it. I’m forever grateful to the individuals who saw my potential, trusted me, and helped me move forward. Besides, I’m a strong believer in remote work, as it has helped me connect with some of the brilliant and respectful individuals Worldwide and has helped me contribute to global projects.
