Volunteered to join the organizing team behind Kenya's first web3 native conference, and the biggest on the continent by current standards. 

We managed over 800 attendees from 30 different countries around the globe. 
I have maintained the role, and immersed myself in formal drafting and designing of documentation for the establishment of a  registered DAO, while preparing for next year's edition.

1.	Legal Research and Strategy
•	Research on corporate compliance requirements in Raise's jurisdictions of operation and advising the CEO on appropriate legal strategy. 
•	Research on the various legal requirements needed to localize the content on the Raise platform to be legally suitable and commercially relevant to the jurisdictions of operation. 
 
2.	Legal Work
2.1 Drafting 
•	Drafting a memorandum on the legality of issuing digital securities on the Raise platform to Anjarwhalla & Khanna Advocates
•	Drafting a memorandum to the Capital Markets Authority of Kenya (CMA), offering our recommendations on their proposed fintech regulatory sandbox in 2018. 
•	Drafting a memorandum on the legality of issuing shares to employees by Private Companies under ESOPs. 
•	Drafting of various contracts required for the onboarding and digitization of the corporate assets of various companies, VC funds, and other private funds

2.2 Legal Advice 
•       Drafting fundraising documents for Raise's fundraising events. 
•	Offering Legal advice to Raise's onboarded companies on different legal issues regarding compliance
•	I led a Due Diligence Review of 21 portfolio companies of a UK incorporated VC firm that were invested in through their South African subsidiary. I reviewed the subsidiary's corporate structure, and the enforceability of its investment contracts. 
•	I led a Due Diligence Review of the enforceability of agreements entered into by a company and its pre-seed investors, as they prepared for the company's upcoming Series A fundraise. 
 
3.	Legal Architecture/ Engineering 
•	Designing the flow and automation of various components
•	Reviewing mockups and designs
•	Usability testing
•	Identifying and reporting bugs
      
4.	Client  Work 
•	Onboarding companies and verifying their cap tables and Deal Rooms.
•	Client demo calls.
•	Acted as the liaison/go-to person linking the Legal Team with the Customer Success Team.

Anjarwalla & Khanna | ALN

Trainee Lawyer on secondment for pupillage from Raise. I was tasked with coordinating the onboarding of Adili CS Services' companies onto the Raise platform, while accomplishing my pupillage requirements. 

Being the largest law firm in East and Central Africa,  the law firm exposed me to cross-border commercial practice at the highest level; including mergers and acquisitions, banking and securities transactions, offshore corporate registration and private equity deals, among other skills.

I was the Chairman of the University of Nairobi Students' Association, and I was responsible for the overall social welfare of the student fraternity. I acted as a representative to the Law School's administration and represented the student body in school Senate, disciplinary hearings and the constitutional review committees.

I have a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Nairobi, with a focus on banking, corporate, international trade and finance, and securities law. I had over three years of experience as a Legal Engineer at Raise, where I conducted legal research, drafted memoranda, and localized the content on the platform for different jurisdictions. I have also worked as a Trainee Lawyer at Anjarwalla & Khanna, one of the leading law firms in Africa. I am passionate about the possibilities that may arise by bridging regulated digital assets with finance, and I am always eager to learn and collaborate with others in this field.
