This is a brilliant case study at the intersection of:
➡️ a gameplay mechanic that only VR can deliver and
➡️ the reconstruction of real-world events.

The game is called Cave Crave.

It already lets players crawl through narrow cave tunnels in game mode. 
But recently, the developers added a new map: Nutty Putty Cave.

This isn't just a fictional setting - it's a real cave in Utah where 26-year-old John Edward Jones got trapped in 2009. 
He crawled into a passage only 25 by 45 cm wide. 
Rescuers tried for two days, but he didn't make it. 

The cave was permanently sealed afterward.

The Cave Crave team studied all available data and recreated the cave in meticulous detail, including the exact spot where Jones got stuck.

Now, in non-game mode, you can crawl through the digital reconstruction in #VR while listening to the story of what happened.

This feels like a direction made for VR: recreating dangerous situations from a first-person perspective - the perfect way to give yourself goosebumps from the safety of your couch.

Most people join the metaverse to have a good time. 
So why shouldn't the act of paying itself be:
➡️ entertaining
➡️ more "analog"

In the real world, money has already gone virtual -it's just digits on a phone screen. 
But in virtual worlds, we want to see the cash!

That's why this solution in Somnium Space feels simply brilliant to me: a realistic tip jar with a fun animation of dollar bills flying into it.

You can tip performers or world creators, roleplay as a beggar on the street, or (why not) even pay alimony for your virtual kids. 😆 
It's hilarious!

And for content creators, it's a goldmine for funny videos. 
In the first clip, for example, popular streamer Roflgator tries to earn tips by holding an awkward pose - $1 for every second he lasts.

Sometimes the simplest mechanics are the most powerful.
