Professional Educator with more than 15 years of classroom teaching experience. I have experience with teaching students who have diverse learning needs and modifying the general education curriculum to make it more accessible for them. Once these modifications are made, 95% of the students on my caseload are successful in the classroom. When students come to my classroom, they are in an environment where they are nurtured and encouraged to do their best. Students are assessed individually to see what their academic deficiencies are before an individualized education plan is written. Afterwards, I can determine goals and create a plan to help them reach them. Prior to teaching, I worked in the beauty industry as a licensed nail technician. This experience was beneficial to me when I taught at a vocational high school. I had the cosmetology students in my English classes and I was able to connect some of the lessons to the beauty industry to help my students understand. Having being licensed by the State of Illinois as a cosmetologist, was an added bonus when planning these lessons. My goal for my students is to always make sure they are getting access to their free and appropriate education. If they are in a general education classroom, I work closely with the teacher to make sure they are receiving their accommodations and modifications as outlined in their Individualized Education Plan.
