Three days ago I started preliminary work on the second class for Financial Life Workshop 2025 (FLW25).

The focus this time is on Investing. 

Why? 

Because if all you learn about investing is where to invest, you don't have a very good foundation about investments and you'll either limit how much wealth you can build or lose money going to fast. 

But like anything worth doing well, I've sat down to ask myself, "What is the most important information this class needs?" 

I can teach about money for days, but I also don't want anyone to leave with information overload. 

Then there's the workbook, because when this class is over, I want every attendee to leave knowing exactly how to invest, their investment goals and where to invest to reach those goals. 

Everything specific to YOU. 

Feels like a lot of work. It is!

But I'm getting there.

Onyeka Okonkwo

I learned something interesting that shifted my perspective on how to employ gratitude. 

Rather than ask: 

What am I grateful for today? 


Think: 

What is something that, if I lost today, would make me feel worse off? 


This simple shift can make a lot of difference in how to show appreciation for what is working in your life now. 


In Oreoluwa Bukola, CFA. 's voice,  "Go and be fantastic today."

I've spent some time this week listening to people who have lost everything or at least some part of their life.

Frustration came. Change happened. Doubt creeped in. 

One woman got a new job based on her PhD dissertation, in a field different from what she was used to, and expressed doubts about taking it. The pay was more than $20k above her current salary, but required her to step into her project work, an area of interest, but she was doubtful of her ability to perform, and considering whether to reject the offer.

Crazy, right? 

Another man lost his wife, nephew, father and mother in a three months period. And realized same morning that he'd lost his job of 10 years that paid over $130k. One kid still under his roof, a chunk of cash, unattended grief, debt to pay, 5 years plans derailed with no idea how to move forward. When encouraged that he'd find another job in his field, he felt hesitant to accept it.

10 years is a long time to work with a company and get discarded. Anyone would feel lost.

7 years ago while searching for a new job, I got invited to an interview in a B-rated company. At level 1, the interviewer got an idea of my experience and the work I'd done, then spent the rest of the time explaining how their processes was more advanced and how it could rival other A-rated companies.

A week later I met with the MD, talked about my future plans to which he replied, "doesn't that already exist?" and went on to devalue my 6 years of experience saying I'd have to start from scratch if he were to hire me because his company was 'superior'.

I walked away.

But I didn't get off unscathed.

Like the man and woman in this story, my confidence was battered. And I found myself constantly wandering down a path of negative self talk.

When I saw a job opening, I'd say:
This company is too advance for what I know.
I can't do this job.
I have no experience in this area.
I won't get called for an interview. 

I avoided anything that looked like it'd put me in an uncomfortable position.


Sound familiar? 

Maybe someone has undervalued your skill and contribution. 

Or a potential or previous employer has battered your confidence. 

You may have declined other opportunities because of one bad experience that made you feel less than.

Or you're asking yourself if people want your skillset or whether it's even enough. 

Maybe you hear the voice of their negative talk in your head. 

And you have made those words your new reality and now self-rejecting without trying. 


Can I tell you that you are worthy of every good thing?

And you deserve to be in that room. 

If someone thinks you're fit for a job, then don't let your mind tell you otherwise. 

You are filled with ideas and the execution plans. 

And you don't need perfection to try. You just need a desire to do something. 


If you can fight and win this battle in your mind, you'll realize it's the only thing keeping you from your future.

I love insider communities. I love seeing not just the output of a person's work, but the journey that has taken them to that point. 

Yesterday, through a class I attended from a paid Inner Circle community I'm a part of, I learned something vital about why I'm doing the things that matter to me. 

I learned about the importance of tying your purpose and passions to your values. 

Neither should exist on its own or you'll soon start to feel like you're not being true to yourself. 

And one of my values is authenticity. 

Maybe you've noticed that when I share my stories you find them relatable. 

Or when you watch my videos or join my workshops, concepts appear easier than you thought. 

It's because I believe in being authentic in whatever I do. 

For this reason, beyond the things I get around to sharing online, I'd also like to take you through my process. I mean, I want you to meet ME. 

From the moment an idea comes into my mind, to the steps I take to execute, the challenges, doubts, periods of laziness and procastination, failures and victories. I'd like to share this with anyone who's willing to go on the journey too. 

But all of this is still tied to how I'm using money to build my life. And how you can do the same too. 

It doesn't matter your income level. And it certainly doesn't matter if you even have an income yet.

This week I received N88,000 as quartetly dividends from my investment. 

I didn't go into this investment afraid of losing money because it's very low risk. This means that my invested amount is reasonably safe and I can get it back whenever I choose.

I also started investing in this asset in 2018 with as little as N5,000. My only job was to put in that N5k monthly and let the professionals do their job. 

Over the years, as my salary grew, so did my invested sum. From N5k, I raised the bar to N10k and then as high as N50,000 monthly. 

While I haven't actively added to this sum in the last 15 months, the years of input have made a difference. 

I guess by now you're wondering what investment I'm talking about? 

It's the money market mutual funds. 

This quarter I'll be guiding over 1000+ people from 32 countries on how to start investing and doing so in a reasonably safe way.

Yes, all for free (it's crazy).

Aim to do less, not more. 

I feel like this statement will cause a lot of people to shout me down 😂.
For a culture that celebrates busyness, doing more is the evidence of being productive. 

But productivity does not mean filling every minute with activity. 

It's actually, more about doing the things that matter to you with more focus and attention. 

So, here's how you can start your day to maximise productivity, not activity:  

📌Step one: 

Choose the one thing that must absolutely get done. 

This is the cake. To deem your day productive, this task must be completed.


📌Step two: 

Choose two things that count as icing on your cake. 

They should matter, but only get done after your one task is completed. 


📌Step three: 

Choose three things that count as cherries on top of your cake (like sprinkles). 

Not as vital as the cake itself or icing, but will make you feel good when done. And won't impact you negatively if undone. 


That's it. 

Hopefully while doing this activity, you remember to include things that are also non-work related, like that learning plan (1hr), taking a relaxing walk 10 - 30 mins),  getting 7 - 8 hrs of sleep, and using that refeeshing face mask you've left in a box. 


For the rest of this week, aim to do less, not more 🙂


What's one cherry on your cake for today?

I loooove the weekends!!!! 

But for a number of unrelated reasons.


➡️1. Get to take time off and intentionally rest. Not sleep late because my body alarm wakes up at the same time every day already. 


➡️2. Work on projects outside work to build my personal brand. 


➡️3. I can think at a pace that feels good. 


➡️4. Sink into a book that teaches me nothing but how oyibo people love up in fiction 😂


➡️5. Take a walk in the park and pet other people's dogs


➡️6. Watch a movie with friends (or alone in bed)


➡️7. Catch up on communities (mine inclusive) and see what everyone is up to


➡️8. Write content for the coming week 


➡️9. Read my bible 


➡️10. Try out some new recreational activity I'd like to learn (there's swimming and bicycling on my list now)


And talk to my plants Lily and Tommy (Peace lily and Spider plant)

I'm smiling a lot just typing this 😊



What's your favourite thing about the weekend?

As someone who's very averse to conflict, I think this is a good way to approach it. 

Lead with curiosity.

When I joined Google, I took a personality test.

Here's why the results embarrassed me:

🔴 My team at the time was mostly "red" (i.e. strong-willed).

🟢 Me? I was "green." I preferred harmony above all else.

I was the odd one out. 🙃

Well, this was no surprise to me. I had never liked dealing with conflict or confrontation.

So to get better at it? I tried many things over the years.

For instance, I tried:

• Using fancier words
• Acting more assertive
• Developing thicker skin
• Writing (to avoid) live debate

None of them really worked.

Until I learned one tip that got me over the hump.

That tip? 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆.

Because when you lead with curiosity, you ask questions. You're listening.

You're putting the spotlight on the other person, rather than trying to talk over them.

As a result? They'll be more inclined to listen to you as well.

The other reason to lead with curiosity when it comes to handling conflict?

You disarm egos.

Because you park aside the notion of "right vs. wrong" for a moment. It doesn't interest you.

Instead, you're exploring why two people – both well-intentioned – have yet to find common ground.

The fact that two reasonable viewpoints don't jive should be interesting to you – not irritating.

Only then can you ask questions that lead to useful outcomes.

(And you won't shy away from conflict as a result.)

“I realised I would never truly fit in anywhere.
And somehow that became my freedom.”

That line was shared with me in a message recently.
And I haven’t stopped thinking about it.

Because if you’ve ever had to code-switch,
Edit your voice to feel credible,
Wear invisibility like armour just to feel safe

Then you know what it means to carry the weight of belonging in rooms not built for you.

Some spaces were never designed to hold your full self.
They were built to reward assimilation, not authenticity.
Comfort, not challenge.
Sameness, not nuance.

You’re celebrated when you perform.
Tolerated when you comply.
Questioned when you speak in your natural rhythm, or sit in your full identity.

So we adjust.
We become fluent in survival.
But in the process we quietly forget the sound of our own truth.

But then comes the turning point.

You stop blaming yourself for the discomfort.
And you start recognising it as misalignment.
Not a signal that you’re too much
But that the space was never big enough.

And from that moment on, you stop bending.
You start building.


Three  lessons  About Belonging, Power and Identity:

1. Shrinking yourself to fit in doesn't keep you safe
it slowly teaches you to abandon yourself.
Every time you dilute your essence to feel “professional,”
you trade inner peace for outward approval.
And the most dangerous part?
You start to believe that who you are is too much.

2.Some rooms weren’t made for you because they were never challenged by someone like you.
If your presence feels like pressure,
if your ideas feel disruptive,
that doesn’t mean you’re the problem.
It often means your truth is confronting their comfort.
Stay rooted.

3.Visibility means nothing without voice.
It’s not enough to be seen.
You must also be heard.
And not just when your perspective aligns with the majority
but especially when it doesn’t.

So what do we do with all of this?

Here’s what I’ve learned and still practise:

Practical Shifts (for those tired of negotiating their identity):

1. Build inner belonging before seeking external validation.
Know who you are clearly, deeply so that no space gets to define you by what it cannot understand.
Let your self-trust lead the way.

2. Learn to speak from your centre, not from strategy.
You don’t need the “perfect tone” to be effective.
You need to speak from clarity not fear.
The right people will hear you. The rest will adjust or move.

3. Let your presence educate the room.
You don’t always have to explain.
Sometimes, your mere presence is a disruption.
That is the lesson. Don’t shrink from it.

4. Redefine impact on your own terms.
You’re not here to be liked.
You’re here to be useful, honest, and aligned.
There’s a big difference between being impressive and being impactful.
Choose the latter.

You were never too much.
You were simply full in a world that still prefers pieces.
