As the Chief Technology Innovation Officer, James's role is to lead technology and innovation initiatives at the MTA Queensland Group. 
 
MTA Queensland, as the peak automotive industry body, is taking the lead and embracing the technological advancements that will completely transform the industry in the coming years.  
 
On the 9th of November 2017, MTA Queensland Group launched the MTAiQ innovation hub (iQ Hub). The first innovation hub in Australia to focus on the automotive industry, MTAiQ aims to create new opportunities and develop the skills, expertise and capabilities that will be needed to support and enable businesses to adapt and thrive in an industry that will be truly unrecognisable within the next decade.
 
James will be at the forefront of this technological advancement and lead MTA Queensland Group’s own innovation initiatives and collaborate with industry, government and academia to develop new products, services and opportunities.

The Motor Trades Association of Queensland (MTAQ) is the peak body representing the interests of employers in the retail service and repair sectors of Queensland’s automotive industry and is the parent organisation of the MTA Institute (MTAI). MTAI is a preferred supplier to the Queensland State Government as an automotive training provider. Backed by our multi million dollar facilities at the Sir Jack Brabham Automotive Centre of Excellence, located in Eight Mile Plains (QLD) we pride ourselves on quality and delivering long term outcomes for the industry.

As CIO for MTAQ and MTAI the role is to innovate, develop, manage and implement IT strategy across all levels of the business. I am responsible for the day to day ICT operations as well as leadership in delivering key business systems which enable MTAQ and MTAI to be the industry and market leaders in their respective fields.

Appointed to the executive board in 2018 to develop and enhance the strategic capabilities of the company as it enters new markets and positions for scale and growth.

During my successful tenure at All Trades Queensland, I transitioned from an initial role as IT Officer (desktop and network infrastructure support) to Infrastructure Manager and on to the position of ICT Manager, leading the ICT portfolio and organisational innovation.

Key Responsibilities / Outcomes:
• Business Intelligence: I developed and maintained financial and business analytics tools for the organisation from 2008 to 2012. I was responsible for the EOFY process and was the architect of the payroll exceptions reporting and business continuity rule engine.

• HR Information System: I was the program manager for Aurion HR Payroll (3000 employees), this responsibility included being both the database and information services owner in addition to the HR system administrator function. Key responsibilities included system customisation as well as business process development. 

• Internal Consultancy: Key objectives of my role were to create efficiency across all business units and to create opportunities to leverage technology to create organisational efficiency. Key Project: Developed a customised document management system that leveraged OCR  to reduce payroll timesheet processing for 3000 employees from three days with a team of 8 FTE's to one day, with a reduction of 4 FTE's.

• Information Technology: I managed and maintained the ICT portfolio from information systems to networking, security and infrastructure.

• ICT Budgeting: Fiscal year budgeting, long term projections and operation cost management. ROI and business case authoring.

• Cloud / Business Mobility and Digitisation:Key Project (2010) I led the adoption of both Cloud and Digital mobility hardware. As one of Microsoft’s earliest hosted exchange customers (BPOS, which would eventually become Office 365) and becoming an early commercial adopter of tablets, enabling the business to digitally transform and carve out significant competitive and commercial advantages.
