I’m feeling relieved and hopeful about yesterday’s AI executive order.

The U.S. has been escalating regulatory and legal chaos around AI. 

2024: 635 AI bills introduced across 45 states; nearly 100 enacted

2025: Over 1,080 AI bills across all 50 states; 118 became law (11% passage rate likely indicates the push/pull between concerns over people protection vs innovation speed needs)

This patchwork was slowing the very capabilities we need most: national security readiness, economic competitiveness, and extensive real‑world deployment of applied AI.

This order brings something that has been missing: clarity. Clarity enables a core pillar of AI success that I call “speed with rigor”. Creating a predictable environment where serious builders can move fast, invest, and execute, without being whipsawed by 50 conflicting regimes.

Although I continue to be bullish about AI’s impact potential, I’m concerned about the macro financial environment. The U.S. is home to some of the world’s largest and most influential tech companies, so both risk and reward are largely housed here. And we are building a massive amount of Al infrastructure:

* ﻿﻿Data centers
* ﻿﻿Energy capacity
* Capital investment

If applied AI demand doesn’t accelerate, supply–demand imbalance endangers financial stability. We don’t want an AI “overbuild then crash” cycle at system scale.

At the same time, accountability and human‑centric outcomes matter deeply to me and I believe in states’ rights. What encourages me is that this EO doesn’t read as “no rules”; rather, a coherent national framework that still leaves room for states to protect their people as they see fit.

To me, this strikes a reasonable balance:  
less chaos, more clarity, faster responsible adoption, and a better shot at aligning AI with human good, national security, and financial balance.
