Having grown up in Colts Neck, New Jersey, Pat lived out his dream to become a Major League Baseball pitcher. As a first-round draft pick, he was selected by the Boston Red Sox and later pitched for the Minnesota Twins, Pittsburgh Pirates and Seattle Mariners.
