TikTok is preparing its defence against a potential ban in the US.

To support that :

They shared a study by Oxford Economics (available in the comments below).

It shows the impact the platform made on the US economy in 2023. 

The results are staggering:

👉TikTok is used by 170 million people and 7 million businesses in the US.
👉TikTok contributed over $24 billion to the US economy in 2023.
👉The use of the app supported 224,000 jobs.

Whether you support the ban or not, TikTok's ability to benefit businesses is undeniable.

Blake Chandlee, President of Global Business Solutions at TikTok, explains: "Businesses across America leverage TikTok's unique capacity to reach new customers, generate new revenue streams, and increase brand awareness for their products and services."

Felicia Jackson, Owner of  CPRWrap, Inc. said: 
“I could not have done this without the help of TikTok, and I say that, and I mean that, and I tell people that all the time”

The co-founder of a small business Kiyoko Beauty, also shared her thoughts on social media: 
"TikTok is probably the No. 1 main contributor to our growth. Now, we are proud to be a 7-figure business, and a lot of that came from TikTok exposure. That’s how we started to build a community on social media"

It's like having a secret weapon in your marketing arsenal.

It brings incredible value to SMBs, but not only...

The TikTok ban will also affect creators.

They are +8M creators on TikTok, according to Click Analytic. Could they survive without it?

Arthur Hill, a TikTok comedian with 1.5M followers, believes that getting rid of TikTok now:

"would be pretty major and could disrupt a lot of people's livelihoods and careers..."

"I feel like they've nailed it so perfectly on the head. And I don't know if anyone could recreate the algorithms," he says.

The takeaway?

Getting replies from influencers can be a hustle...

I used to send emails and receive only 2-3% replies 😑  

Then I changed my approach. 

I applied what I've learned doing B2B sales emails to Influencer Outreach. 

And since then, I've always followed the same structure.

Looking to get more replies from creators? Apply this 4-steps structure:

1️⃣  𝙋𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙯𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙘𝙚-𝙗𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙧
This is the part you want to hook influencers with. 
𝑅𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟: Influencers can receive +100 emails with offers per day. 
⚠ You need to stand out ⚠ 

How? Show genuine interest.
It can be:
👉   Why you like their profile
👉   Why they are a good fit
👉   Highlight their recent collab
👉   A recent event they went to
👉   Stats you've liked about their profile

2️⃣  𝘽𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙛 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙤 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙙
Here's your elevator pitch.
But KEEP IT SHORT. 2-3 short sentences MAX.
Why you? Use social proof unless you're a massive brand like Nike.

For ex. BRAND is a skincare line specifically formulated to treat the depleting and damaging effects of stress on the skin. You probably saw our product at Ulta or Sephora and we also got featured on ELLE, Forbes etc.

3️⃣ 𝑯𝒐𝒐𝒌 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒂 𝒃𝒂𝒊𝒕
Your hook is what you offer.
Be clear and precise.

For ex: I think you’ll be a perfect fit for our April 2024 campaign. In addition to sending you free products and discounts for your audience, we would like you to join our paid campaign for April.


4️⃣ 𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮, 𝘾𝙏𝘼
I’ve found that ending my outreach emails with a soft CTA can really increase the response rate.
𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵'𝘴 𝘢 𝘴𝘰𝘧𝘵 𝘊𝘛𝘈? It’s a question that doesn’t require thinking too hard.

These are the best working examples:

👉 Are you interested?
👉  Here’s the link to sign up
👉 What’s your pricing for X & Y?

But remember:

⚠ Always use only ONE CTA per email.

Gisou by Negin Mirsalehi exceeded all expectations and sent SUPER creative PR fridges filled with their beauty products to influencers.

= FOMO 😮 

The gift was sent to several mid-tier beauty creators across TikTok and #Instagram - those include:

☑ Larissa Marielle — 129K followers
☑ Anna Astrup — 253K followers
☑ Hanna Schönberg — 325K followers
☑ Alva Blomdahl — 405K followers
☑ Adorable Caro - 478K followers

🚀 The results? Epic!

Over 10M cumulative views on TikTok and a wave of TikTok users desperately wanting their own Gisou fridge.

Why did this campaign stand out?

First, it's the sheer creativity and visual appeal of the fridges. But the genius doesn't stop there.

Gisou harnessed the power of FOMO by making these fridges ultra-exclusive. 

-> You can't buy them, which only fueled the fire of desire among consumers.

The unique approach sparked a mini-trend on TikTok, with tons of UGC talking about Gisou. This organic boost further accelerated hype around the brand!

“Nobody will need THIS many products” you might think. 

True, but that’s the key! Many influencers started to host giveaways of Gisou products, sparking even more buzz and engagement around it!

Here's my 5 KEY metrics 🔥 


Finding the right influencer is crucial for your campaign.

But still a trouble for many marketers...

And sometimes, it can turn into a fiasco 😐 

Think:

For Instagram, a good engagement rate is usually the following:
☑  1k to 10k followers = +5.2%
☑  10k to 100k followers = +2.6%
☑  +100k followers = +1.1%

Often overlooked, this metric is a treasure trove for understanding genuine interaction. A significant drop in engagement in sponsored posts? Red flag!

BMW missed a BIG opportunity

And Hyundai seized it 🔥 

Here's Reesa Teesa x Hyundai:


BMW's slip was Hyundai's gain.

Recently, the company gifted Reesa Teesa a car.

𝙒𝙝𝙤’𝙨 𝙍𝙚𝙚𝙨𝙖 𝙏𝙚𝙚𝙨𝙖? (𝙄𝙣 𝙘𝙖𝙨𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪’𝙧𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙖 𝙧𝙤𝙘𝙠)

She’s a TikTok creator who went viral, letting the world in on her heartbreak.

Back in February, she recorded 50 episodes (10 minutes each!) about her toxic marriage.

Which is very unusual for TikTok, as it was meant for short-paced content.

However, Teesa’s storytelling skills appeared to be so strong…

… that she gained 1.2M followers in ONE week 🤯

How? Her TikTok series generated +400M impressions.

Today, her TikTok account features:
👉 3.7M followers (+80,000% boost over the last 6 months)
👉 6.13% engagement rate
👉 3.3M average views

These are crazy results!

And recently, she signed with Creative Artists Agency for representation.

Dreams do come true!

𝙎𝙤, 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝘽𝙈𝙒 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙃𝙮𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙞 𝙨𝙖𝙜𝙖?

In one of the episodes, Tareasa Johnson (Reesa’s real name) shared that her ex-husband promised her a dream car — 

-> a midnight blue BMW X5 with a cognac interior.

But the promise was never fulfilled.

Sensing an opportunity, BMW offered Reesa the car through TikTok.

However, later, they mysteriously deleted the offer… 🙈

It sparked a backlash among users and a passive-aggressive post from Johnson herself.

This fumble opened the door for Hyundai Motor Company (현대자동차).

Capitalizing on BMW's misstep, Hyundai indeed gifted Reesa a vehicle!
Results?

👉 3.7M views, 386K likes, and 15K comments praising Hyundai.

Meanwhile, BMW faced the music with 6.4 million views of Reesa's disappointment - a PR nightmare 😱. 

The takeaway?

Influencers hold immense power in shaping brand perception.

So, as a brand - NEVER overpromise!

Are exclusive content the next big thing on Instagram?

How will it impact creators?

I don't know if you are seeing the same thing, but I get more and more creators doing promotions on their stories for "Exclusive Content".

It seems that Instagram is pushing creators to capitalize on their audience and make a new recurring stream of income.

But why?

⏪ 𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗱.

For years, Instagram saw celebrities and influencers generate millions from their audiences on Social Media.

𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘰𝘧 𝘒𝘪𝘮 𝘒𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘢𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘢𝘯.

She can earn up to $500,000 from a single Instagram promotion. If she does 2-3 promotions per month, it's close to $10-$20M in revenue a year.

But that's not all.

Her brand SKIMS is now worth $4 billion.

She was able to build it successfully due to her massive audience on Instagram.

The cute of Instagram on that? $0.

The strategy is now shifting. Instagram wants a piece of the cake.

And they are following the success of OnlyFans.

💡 𝗦𝗼 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸?

Creators can now set a monthly subscription plan between $0.99 and $99.99.
The purpose?

Subscriptions are a perfect way for creators to monetize their audiences.

Rather than using external platforms to do it. Instagram wants to keep creators in their app.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀?

👉 Build a stronger community.
👉  Elevate your personal brand.
👉  Monetize exclusive content.

Creators can now share exclusive posts, reels, and live content with subscribers, add them to a premium chat, give badges, etc.

📌 Today, there are 2M+ active subscriptions to creators on Instagram.

It might have worked in 2014, but nowadays?

No!

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹.

Every week, I hear from marketers that contacting influencers is a struggle.

𝑊ℎ𝑦?

Because the battle for attention is fierce, influencers are swamped with offers.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻?

Think about influencer outreach as B2B sales.

Here's how I achieved a 70% response rate:

1️⃣ 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 & 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

It's about finding the right balance.
Influencer outreach is a personalized process.
BUT you can streamline the process by creating templated emails.
It’s a great way to save time without losing authenticity.

2️⃣  𝗔/𝗕 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴

Don’t hesitate to use an email sender.
It will save you a LOT of time.
Focus on automating the most tedious parts.
Email senders provide you with tons of valuable data.
So why not use it to refine your strategies and maximize the impact?

3️⃣  𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗲

Focus on broader outreach.
This is my tactic: always add a zero to the volume of creators you need to reach.
If I need to 10 influencers on my campaign, I’ll reach out to 100.
More outreach means more feedback and data, allowing you to refine your approach more quickly (= faster success).

4️⃣ 𝗖𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀-𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵

Primarily, I always focus on reaching influencers through email.
Because it’s more professional and easier to automate.
But using DMs is a great starting point as well, especially when email addresses are hard to come by.
DMs are also a more authentic, easy way to follow up.
Combining both is the best strategy.

5️⃣ 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄-𝘂𝗽𝘀

Following up is essential.
Influencers are busy, and they receive many requests.
Don't let one answered email stop you. 
Follow up 2-3 times to triple your answers.

Joe Malone x Influencers, Creator To Watch: Andrew Glaze, and Google + AI + creators?!

IKEA created a fake luxury brand…

And got 40M views 😮 

Plus, it involved creators.

The goal of the campaign? To influence customers' perception.

Recap:

Back in January, IKEA partnered with the Mother Agency to introduce their new ad, which was running across the UK on TikTok and multiple digital media assets and press.

In their ad, IKEA showcased a brand 'Eureka Spiritsis'...

...an enigmatic kitchen brand with sophisticated design and luxurious quality.

The trick?

“Eureka Spirits” never existed.

Actually, it’s just an anagram for “SURPRISE, IT’S IKEA”.

“We lied about the name, but everything we say about the kitchens is true.” — the ad states.

To incorporate the campaign on social media, IKEA partnered with creator and etiquette expert, William Hanson.

Together with the influencer, IKEA created a series of short videos explaining the etiquette behind 'how to use an Ikea kitchen'.

We analyzed William’s TikTok performance using Click Analytic:

👥 He has 1.7M followers
🔥 The account has grown by 66% over the last 6 months 🔥 
🇬🇧  67% of William’s audience is located in the UK

And the results of the campaign?

🚀 The video on William’s account generated 940K views and 44K likes.

The content on IKEA’s own page garnered 40M+ VIEWS!

Crazy!

But wait, that’s not it.

IKEA also launched an event.

They invited influencers who believed they were attending a launch event for a new, premium brand, Eureka Spiritsis.

At the event itself, Starr Mclean revealed that the event was, in fact, held by IKEA.

GENIUS marketing move!

So, what was the purpose?

In the UK, IKEA is not typically associated with luxury or high-end products.

And the campaign isn't just marketing; it's a statement.

A challenge to our perceptions and an invitation to see the familiar in a new light.

Kemi Anthony, Marketing Communication Manager at IKEA, said: 
"With our playful ‘Eureka Spiritsis’ misdirect, we want to give consumers a pleasant surprise and put Ikea kitchen’s design, quality and expertise front and centre of the conversation.”

IKEA didn't just change how we see their kitchens; 

They made us question our assumptions about brand identity itself.

But the question is: was it enough?
