Dgraph Labs

I joined Dgraph when the company was entering a new chapter of rapid growth, and after it had spent quite some time without anyone focused on Frontend. That meant I had some unique challenges:
- modernized, cleaned up, and sometimes brought back to life a portfolio of web properties: main website, documentation, blog, tour, candidate screening system, web-based database client. Each property has already been built on a different (and sometimes really outdated) tech stack.
- re-thought and rebuilt the UX of our database client to accommodate an explosion in new features
- refactored the codebase to the modern React best practices: hooks, proper Redux patterns, thunks, CSS modules, etc.
- rewrote the graph rendering system on top of D3, unlocking a road to new features and a 20X improvement in performance
- introduced best practices and modern build tools in order to improve code reuse and site performance.
- introduced end to end web testing with Puppeteer

Frontend Engineer

Uprise

Took the product from concept to a revenue generating mobile-first webapp. Designed our interview process and grew the dev team from one to four engineers.
On my watch we also won two StartCon awards, raised a $380k+ seed round, got a chance to pitch to Sam Altman, had a flawless launch to thousands of users.

Developers were applying for jobs simply because we were offering a chance to work with the most modern and future proof stack.

As an Architect I was overseeing and coordinating efforts of ~50 developers of XPLAN.

My most significant achievements:
- kickstarted regular workshops on best practices and new technologies;
- won an internal hackathon less than 2 months after I joined the company;
- led SAML2 rollout and integrations with institutional clients. Received multiple accolades for my communication;
- introduced automatic performance monitoring;
- implemented system-wide JS and CSS minification.

- Google Wave
Public release of Wave generated lots of hype and media attention. My team was responsible for scaling our servers and NoSQL databases to millions of early adopters; running and troubleshooting hundreds of servers; rolling updates and release management.

  Every time you hit Print in G Spreadsheets, my code decides what the result will look like

- Commenting for Google Docs
  Did you know you there are keyboard shortcuts to jump to next/prev comment? That wasn't possible before I joined the project.
Working in an Agile team with TDD and CI I was contributing to both server and client code, communicating with teams in the head office.

Software Engineer

Computer vision engine
Rewrote the existing code from Visual Basic to C++. Located the main sources of the recognition errors. Proposed webcam-specific optimizations. Proposed and implemented additional recognition approaches. These improvements allowed to achieve 85-95% success rates.

Point of sale application
Designed and implemented a portable point of sale application. Deployed at 4 self-service stores under Ubuntu Linux. Responsibilities: C++ programming, interface tuning for usability, drivers design for error prone hardware.

Linux kernel drivers development
Guided the Linux kernel porting to ARM-based hardware. Responsibilities: understanding the kernel source code, consulting on the routines, data structures, design patterns and debugging techniques used in Linux kernel.

Developed a web front-end powered by Lotus Domino server. Implemented various parts of back-end data entry and order processing workflow. JavaScript/HTML/Lotus Notes programming.

Java / JavaBeans research
Studied and evaluated the IBM WebShere Application Server / Domino interoperability. Implemented sample web application for accessing and browsing Domino databases in Java.

Pentaconta telephonic system - Win32 based switcher controller
Implemented a robust connectivity layer and an internal exchange protocol for serial ports/leased lines — Borland Delphi / Object Pascal.

File transfer application
Deeloped an internal file transfer tool in C over serial lines, matching the existing resource constraints and provided interaction between Win32 and MS-DOS machines.

Pentaconta telephonic system — i386 controller
Implemented a database application in Assembler language for the i386 processor under the internal real-time OS.
