I co-founded this news and opinion website about radio with my colleagues Matthew Lasar and Jennifer Waits to cover radio from an outside-the-industry perspective, focused on the needs of listeners, producers and enthusiasts. As fans of audio media, we have an expansive view of radio that includes podcasting, internet and satellite radio, along with traditional broadcast. We believe this all adds up to a bright future for the medium.

In June 2015 we started the weekly Radio Survivor Podcast, which I co-host and co-produce with Eric Klein. The show's launch was covered by Radio World.

As a trailblazer in the podcasting industry I built and established the marketing and research strategy that established the podcast advertising business at Midroll, now representing more than 300 top shows. Responsible for all of Midroll's B2B marketing efforts, I conduct market research and advertising effectiveness research that continues to demonstrate that podcasting is one of the most robust platforms for brands of all sizes.

• Produced 65 episodes of "The Wolf Den," Earwolf's podcast about the business of the podcast. Hosts were: Jeff Ulrich, Midroll & Earwolf co-founder; Adam Sachs, Midroll CEO; Chris Bannon, Midroll CCO & Lex Friedman, Midroll CRO.

• Research, write and design surveys, white papers and industry reports on podcasting and podcast advertising. Topics include best practices, audience demographics and brand recall.

• Write and edit email campaigns targeted to advertising clients and to subscribers of Midroll's premium podcast platform, Howl.fm.

• Create and manage earned social media campaigns targeting business and consumer audiences.

• Design and conduct paid search and social B2B advertising campaigns.

Streaming Media Magazine

I wrote the "Class Act" column for Streaming Media Magazine, taking up important issues in producing, using and distributing educational online media. This included writing the annual "State of Education Video" feature that surveyed the shifting academic media landscape. 

I also covered video marketing and advertising with contributions to Streaming Media's sister publication OnlineVideo.net.

With this work I connected educators with the larger streaming media industry, in addition to networking them with each other. I endeavored to help industry players and vendors better understand the educational vertical, communicating the unique needs of educators and educational institutions.

I served as the adviser to the nation's largest student-run college radio station. I provided fiscal, regulatory and legal oversight for the station, whose daily operation and programming is operated and staffed by students.

I directed a division of the School of Communication's IT department focused on the support of traditional and distance curricula in the use of academic technology, with a particular focus on online media, collaboration, marketing and external communications.

• Responsible for all aspects of rich video and audio content strategy and production for curriculum, research and administrative needs. 
• Directed production of promotional video content to market undergraduate and graduate programs.
• Produced instructional multimedia content for distance learning.
• Supervised cinematography and post-production specialists who provided in-class instruction to undergraduate film production classes, along with individualized assistance to students completing class and extracurricular film projects. 
• Provided consultation and assistance to faculty and students in school departments wishing to create and use video in their work.

I built a rich digital media production and distribution service for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the largest college at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, serving 61 departments.

The work of ATLAS Digital Media included many types of production, from  class lectures and event videography, to podcasts and scripted multi-camera productions. Our products were used to support traditional classroom and distance, research and to enhance the overall academic community.

I partnered with other units across the university to provide much needed media services while bringing in additional resources to support our work within the College of LAS. Partners included the National Center for Supercomputing Applications and the University of Illinois Global Campus.

I architected  a robust streaming and downloaded media delivery infrastructure intended to scale with the ever-growing needs of the College and the university.
