Weekend thoughts. 

Rush (the band) '50 Something Tour' with Anika Nilles announced in 2026. 

Ah Rush. One more time. When my mates and I saw them in concert in school long ago, I never would have believed you if you had said that, decades later, I would buy tickets for me, my son and my grandson to hear the same songs and the same singers. But that will be the case in 2026.

Rush, like most timeless brands is not for everyone. Their epic storytelling music, long songs, high pitched front man and cerebral lyrics were never going to dominate radio. But like all enduring brands, they have something to teach.

1. Neil Peart, their now deceased drummer was arguably one of the best to ever live. He was always hiring coaches and studying to get better. Forever challenging himself.

2. They adapted through the ages, and had radio hits when many progressive rock bands had already faded. Selling out arenas for 40 years.

3. They stuck to their identity...writing and singing about life and meaning...not much about what most popular music focuses on. 

4. They did hard things.  Try learning  to play 'La Villa Strangiato.' Their odd time signatures and complex structures are at times more like symphonies than rock. They wanted to be the best so they made it difficult for themselves.

5. They expanded and diversified. You can't replace the irreplaceable. Neil Peart was iconic. But Anika Nilles is a veritable legend in her own right and will bring fresh new insights to the show. Word has it a keyboard player may also join.

Ah Rush. When I could have had a gap trying to teach my son certain principles, I could always draw on 'Something For Nothing,' Closer to the Heart,' and 'Working Man,' and hand him some headphones.

When I needed to remember for myself to heal,  and to push on, there was the Neil Peart book Ghost Rider, and songs like 'Marathon' and 'Sweet Miracle' and 'Time Stand Still.'

Fun being 50 something. 

And we will be there there for 50 Something. Three generations. 

At this rate they may play '2112' in 2112.

Thanks to my friends at Clio and #ClioCon my crew will now be pushing for puppies at work!  And like all things coming out of that conference I'm seeing...that's a good thing.
