I am a multi-award winning lawyer and innovator. I have been practicing family law for over a decade and I advocate for a kinder, team-based approach to divorce. My firm, Balance Family Law, offers accessible, fixed fee services to assist families navigate their separation and divorce peacefully so they can move forward and thrive. I seek out and connect with passionate like-minded folk who value collaboration over competition and prioritise working with purpose and innovation. The relationships developed are built on trust to establish change: change in community perception of how the law can be practiced; change in the way that lawyers communicate with each other in a noncompetitive environment; and, change in how people experience separation and divorce. My goal is to normalise a kind and collaborative approach to dispute resolution. In 2020, I began The Kind Lawyers initiative and in 2021 with 8 founding members, The Kind Lawyers Pty Ltd was launched. Balance and I have been acknowledged with 25 awards and accolades for our thoughtful approach, including winning the Australian Law Awards Sole Practitioner of the Year 2021, Family Law Partner of the Year Award 2021, Australian Law Awards Boutique Law firm of the Year Award 2020, APEC Insider’s Rising Stars of Family Law, Corporate Livewire Global Award Winners for Family Law and 2020/21 Ausmumpreneur Awards for Emerging Ausmumpreneur and Service Business. I am on the board of Directors for Pacifica Congress, Co-Chair of Connecting Lawyer Mums and a committee member of the ACT Law Society’s ADR committee. Before private practice, I worked as a case worker and legal officer for the ACT statutory child protection agency, receiving consecutive Chief Minister’s Awards for Excellence for my work with families and children on the frontline. I also gained unique insights as an Associate to a Magistrate in the ACT Children’s Court while in the final years of my law degree. I am trained in conflict management coaching, advanced collaborative law, mediation, parent coordination and I have post-graduate qualifications in Human Services. My super power is creative problem solving and thinking outside the box. I am an environmentalist and animal lover. I advocate for kinder lawyering and living through my instablog, The Kind Lawyer and through my volunteer work at local animal sanctuaries and community organisations.
