As science advisor I keep Cicayda up to date on technology trends in analytics,help clarify their position on technologies, and help shape the philosophy of the company.

Science Advisor

My role is to define the model of the analytical process for the litigation support tools used for electronic discovery. Cicayda products span the entire litigation life cycle. I developed an entity analytics approach for the product line, developed entropy based document similarity clustering, and wrote the majority of our technical position in papers and blogs. My greatest achievement is the development of a new system for frequent pattern analysis and document similarity measurement. I also developed a noise classification system, entity resolution system, and other systems for analysis. In addition, I engaged the competition’s own data scientists in debate, defended the Cicayda philosophy on the practice of eDiscovery, and promoted Cicayda through Twitter and my blog. My paper on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence in eDiscovery was a Top 3% paper at Academia.edu.

As part of the Innovation Group, my role is to oversee data science projects, enable Natural Language Processing in projects, and advise other teams on analytical techniques. The Innovation Group seeks to innovate the company and it's practices, and to innovate in the marketplace.

VGT makes gaming terminals and servers for Class II casinos. It was acquired in 2014 by Aristocrat, Inc. What makes VGT unique is the combination of the revenue sharing model and the high degree of data that is collected from the machines about play data.

Responsibilities
Identify unique opportunities to collect new data. 
Design new processes and builds large, complex data sets.
Develop strategy for new uses for data and its interaction with data design.
Locate new data sources, analyzes statistics and implements quality procedures.
Perform data studies of new and diverse data sources.
Find new uses for existing data sources.
Conduct statistical modeling and experiment design.
Discover “stories” told by the data and presents them to other scientists and business managers.
Test and validate predictive models.
Build web prototypes and performs data visualization.
Conduct scalable data research on and off the cloud.
Implement automated processes for efficiently producing scale models.
Design, modify and build new data processes.
Generate algorithms and create computer models.
Collaboration with database engineers and other scientists.
Implement new or enhanced software designed to access and handle data more efficiently.
Train the data management team on new or updated procedures.

Applicable Skills
Working knowledge of statistics, programming and predictive modeling.
Code writing abilities.
Critical thinking skills and the ability to relate them to the products or services the company is producing.
Knowledge of appropriate programming languages (C, R, Python, SQL).

Self Employed

I formed and ran a company for consulting in natural language processing techniques. My goal was to apply the skills I had mastered working for the U.S. Army to civilian use. I worked with local and state governments, as well as with medium sized corporations. I lectured in Nashville frequently and was a panel speaker at the 2011 Text Analytics Summit in San Jose, California. When the opportunity came to work for Cicayda, I closed Nectarine Imp.

Digital Reasoning Systems was contracted by the U.S. Army and other agencies to build the next generation intelligence platform. Digital Reasoning Systems hired me for my problem solving skills. During my employment, my role evolved significantly:  I invented methods for testing the Synthesys AI system, I did significant work as an interface to the Army, and I developed software in Java and Perl. As my first company, Nashville Software Factory provided valuable entrepreneurship experience which was later useful in running Nectarine Imp.

Data Scientist to the Stars!

I am moving quickly into quantum computing. Oh sure, AI is all the rage, but right now AI models are about as useful as an advisor who is tripping on a lot of LSD. Quantum computers will help me in finding the most likely way an unlikely event will happen - and that is where the real gold will be found in the future.

If you know how an unlikely future can happen, you will know what you need to influence to make it happen. That only sounds dangerous when you aren't the one pulling the levers. Harry Seldon would be (will be?) proud.
