As a former senior leader at EPA, as a long-time in-house environmental lawyer and as an environmental lawyer in private practice, I have been able to consistently use my experience, insight and vision to create successful outcomes for the organizations that I have served. As the Assistant Administrator for EPA’s Office of Land and Emergency Management, it was my privilege to lead a career staff in working to accelerate the pace and accountability for Superfund, RCRA and UST cleanups. I conceived of and started the Office of Mountains Deserts and Plains. We put in place PFAS groundwater cleanup guidance and proposed an ANPRM to holistically address PFAS in the environment under CERCLA and RCRA. We incorporated Opportunity Zone status in consideration for Brownfield grants to support disadvantaged communities. We led and convened the dialog and planning on the need to dramatically improve recycling that culminated in EPA’s issuance of a bold recycling goal of 50% by 2030. We developed new RCRA corrective action targets for 2030. I championed the critical need for the development of an inclusive future vision for contaminated property. As in-house counsel I assumed a leading role in successfully resolving long term and highly controversial environmental issues, while managing a very large and broad array of other environmental matters. I served as subject matter counsel engaging in compliance counseling, enforcement defense and auditing for RCRA, CERCLA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and TSCA, corporate disclosures and sustainability. I have served as the principal environmental lawyer in the sale and acquisition of many businesses and manufacturing sites on a global basis during the time of a high volume of merger and acquisition activity. As a law firm lawyer I represented a broad range of individuals, private and public clients in all areas of environmental law, including environmental insurance. I am a very good team member who makes the team better by being a good teammate. I believe the first duty to an organization is to work to leave it in better shape and be prepared for what is coming. I am driven to seek to innovate and to do better. I am passionate about recognizing and developing talent.
