I am the cofounder and CEO of Carpedia International, a global management consulting firm built to help the leaders of high-performing organizations physically implement improvements in their processes, management systems, and organizational behaviors. Carpedia has an exceptional track record and a strong reputation for delivering results. Over the past 30 years, we’ve had the privilege to work with some of the world’s most successful organizations as they figure out how to continually improve. Before I was invited to be a Forbes Books author, I published The 52 Series, four collections of short articles filled with key takeaways for business leaders. The most popular of these were, Lessons Learned, a humble retelling of some of the many things we’ve learned from our clients, and Maxims, work/life principles which are still used to guide our values and behaviors as a company. A personal lesson learned: coaching and managing are similar, and both extremely difficult to do well. Despite playing Division 1 sports at college, I had no appreciation for coaches until I had to actually coach my two sons as they grew up. Who knew it was so hard to figure out practice and game plans, train, develop, and motivate players? Not to mention managing the expectations of well-meaning, ambitious parents. I found the same thing in business. Being a management consultant requires a very different skillset than being a manager. A good deal of the last thirty years has been trying to figure out how to bridge that gap. My book, Results Not Reports, is an attempt to articulate what I’ve learned personally, and what we’ve learned as a company, helping high-performance organizations implement change. It’s written for executives, but it just might also be useful for young parents who find themselves having to coach their own kids.
