How much of a difference would it make for you if all your marketing immediately made people see you as MEANINGFULLY DIFFERENT than any other option they have? Whether you have tons of direct competitors or not, your potential customers compare you to other options they have. If you don't stand out as the best for them, they choose someone else. My approach to marketing is based on messaging (especially differentiation), so that's where I always start. Messaging is almost always the root cause of poor marketing results, but many people notice some specific symptoms instead. Some common symptoms of by poor differentiation: 🚩You've spent lots of time and money on your website, but you don't get many (if any) high-quality leads or sales from it. 🚩You do plenty of marketing, but the overall results hardly justify the effort you put in. 🚩You aren't sure what to say in some marketing (e.g., ads, emails, blog, webinar) to get people to take action, even if you have their attention. Most of my clients are other marketing experts (I'm often called "the marketers' marketer"). That's because they know it's almost impossible to see your own business, product, or service objectively.
