Reported directly to the Executive Director, Employee & Labor Relations. In two years and 200,000 miles of nationwide travel: 

Conducted five counter organizing campaigns, closed 12 contracts and managed a total portfolio of over 30 CBAs. Provided day-to-day employee relations support to a 10-state region in the Western United States with 55 sites and 1,500 employees. 

In addition to dramatically reducing the use of outside legal counsel to perform negotiations and counter-organizing campaigns, my negotiations routinely came back under the authorized budget.

Worked directly with senior operations executives regarding bargaining unit economic offers and the impact of Company's contract language agendas. Stayed involved in high-profile risk management scenarios impacting employee and labor relations. Developed strategy to reduce risk management events in one geographic region.

Employee Relations execution of Company's acquisition of a new business unit that including working and traveling with a transition team at the highest level of the Company. Leader in articulating the Company's position on changes to employee medical insurance benefits.

Management coaching to branch managers and operations management. Extensive Just Cause and Progressive Discipline experience with Zero Reversals by third-party review (e.g. EEOC, etc.).

General manager of the organization – a labor union established in 1894 consisting of 4,500 administrative, technical, professional, and supervisory City of Los Angeles civil servants – with a $1.9 million annual operating budget. 

Oversaw complicated external litigation including a landmark California Supreme Court case. In my role I would liaison between various Legal Counsel and the Board of Governors who were elected by the membership. I reported directly to the Board's Executive Committee (see recommendations below). 

Chief union spokesperson for a four unit, $380 million annual labor contract with the City of Los Angeles. Issues included Vested Benefit Doctrine (i.e. pension reform), Mandatory Furloughs in a "Fiscal Emergency", and other austerity measures stemming from the performance of the multibillion dollar retirement system LACERS. Filled permanent seat on the Joint Labor-Management Benefits Committee responsible for vetting and approving medical insurance and other employee benefit contracting for all City of Los Angeles employees.

Executive management of internal operations including representational program through a staff of four labor representatives and organizational functions through a staff of two administrative professionals. Volunteer management experience. Public speaking experience. Complicated political environments.

Administrative Officer (Executive Director)

Responsible for contract monitoring, grievance representation, disciplinary investigation representation, Unfair Employee Relations Practices investigations, and general personnel-related counseling for 1,500 City of Los Angeles civil servants in the Los Angeles Police Department, City Planning Department, Office of Finance, Personnel Department, Los Angeles Department of Transportation, Emergency Management Department, and Department of Cultural Affairs.

Successful in several high-profile civilian disciplinary action reversals at LAPD. Often detected systemic issues and generated strategy to address through protected concerted activity.

Managed volunteer Union Stewards program increasing the attendance and ranks. Coordinated grievance campaigns and processed hundreds of grievances throughout the City.

As a photographer, my work supported criminal and administrative investigations ranging from child abuse to undercover operations and homicides. All in a Zero Fail Environment. During the period of the Federal Consent Decree, my work often consisted of the overnight preparation of photographic prints for the Chief of Police in his pre-dawn briefings of Officer Involved Shootings before holding media questions and answers. Became an active volunteer in the Engineers & Architects Association, the labor representative for my collective bargaining unit in 2006.

Fun biographical factoid about me. In 2006, I performed primary source research for historian William Seale by locating photographs of the White House Residence from the Nancy Reagan redecoration (Acknowledgements, page xii).

Worked in a designated national security critical-sensitive position organizing and administering the public's access to the records of President Ronald Reagan. 

Including: Presidential Records, Gubernatorial Records, Campaign Records, and the Personal and Family Records (e.g. birth certificate, military file, etc.). Position included public education on the Presidential Records Act, the Privacy Act, the National Security Act (and Mandatory Review process), as well as the Freedom of Information Act.  Among my accomplishments:

Identified open HUAC record re: Ronald Reagan in Washington, DC Congressional Files and added a copy of the original to the Quick Reference files in the supervised research room in Simi Valley, CA. 

Archivist's Special Achievement Award, Outstanding Achievement in Customer Service to External NARA Customers, For performing extraordinary services for the White House, the U.S. Congress, and the U.S. Supreme Court, 12/1/2005.

I show up in your comment threads and you cannot escape me.

I’m the one who appears under your perfectly good post like a storm cloud with WiFi.

The one who takes your feel-good leadership story and dismantles it with a single, devastating word:

Actually…

You don’t invite me into conversations.
I emerge.

I don’t scroll.
I surveil.

And the moment you say something even slightly inaccurate, exaggerated, or emotionally embellished, I materialize like a bureaucratic poltergeist with a responsibility complex.

People think I became this way after the military.
Actually, this started in the military.

My entire unit despised me.

Not because I was bad at the job, I was great.
Not because I was lazy, I was the opposite.

They despised me because every brief, every order, every plan, every meeting turned into a hostage situation the moment I raised my hand.

We’d be two minutes from stepping off and I’d ask:

“Actually… why are we doing this?”
“Actually… who decided this route?”
“Actually… has anyone analyzed the logic behind this timeline?”
"Actually... did anyone proofread this PowerPoint for the correct font?"

The platoon hated it.
The squad hated it.
Leadership deeply hated it.

Except my Battalion Executive Officer. He loved it... weirdly. 

I wasn’t trying to be difficult.
I was trying to be correct.

And now?
Now that I’m out?

Correcting people is my life’s purpose.

Not a hobby.
Not a quirk.
A calling.

I wake up every morning knowing LinkedIn desperately needs me. 

I'm the only person on this platform brave enough to say, “Actually, that’s not accurate,” when someone posts a wildly embellished deployment story or a corporate fairy tale that never happened.

Call it a superiority complex if you want.
Actually, I call it clarity.

Some of you accept whatever you read at face value.
I don’t.
I can’t.

Because when I see misinformation, something in me activates.

A moral imperative.
A cosmic obligation.
A divine itch that only gets scratched when I correct you publicly.

LinkedIn isn’t social media to me.
It’s a battlespace.

You post.
I evaluate.
You exaggerate.
I deploy “actually” like a JDAM.

I know people think I wear out my welcome.

They whisper, “He’s too much,” or “He’s unbearable,” or “He got fired again.”
Actually, they’re uncomfortable because I expose the cracks in their logic.

I don’t derail conversations.
I rescue them from intellectual negligence.

I don’t nitpick.
I perform precision strikes.

I don’t argue.
I enlighten.

And if my sense of superiority shows?
Actually, that’s intentional.

Because someone has to maintain standards.

Someone has to prevent LinkedIn from descending into a swamp of half-truths and motivational fiction.

Someone has to step up and make sure the world stays accurate, even when nobody asked for it.

That someone is me.

You know who I am.
And I’m not going anywhere.
