Founding Engineer

Convoy Inc

Founding full stack engineer on "Convoy for Brokers" that began as a hack-week project and is now a large dedicated team. This zero-to-one project opened Convoy’s shipper-to-carrier marketplace to 3rd party brokers. We built a new service, ingestion pipeline, and webapp and integrated with the existing services, data model, and marketplace. I was one of two initial engineers and we grew to a cross-functional team of ~15 and launched with 10+ large partners over the course of a year.

Tech Lead - Convoy for Brokers

Backend development for Convoy Go, a program where Convoy supplies trailers and carriers just need to use the power unit of the truck to haul shipments.

- Built a new service that adds a "trailer job" to every Go shipment with a default route.
- Worked with PM and the operations team to come up with a plan for automating the default trailer routing plan for shipment lanes.
- Designed "Circuit Batches", a type of shipment batch that maintains consistent trailer supply. Implemented the first 3 phases of the trailer routing.
- Designed "Async Shipment Creation", an effort to break Convoy’s monolithic shipment creation API into a workflow. Successfully implemented the first phase of the workflow and migrated 100% of the Convoy Go team's shipment creation to the new model. Reviewed design with the ingestion team leads and got agreement to hand off ownership to that team.

Software Engineer - Convoy Go

Built internal tools for our operations teams (with real-time updates and 400+ simultaneous users). Full stack development with focus on the React/Typescript frontend. Top code contributor to ops tools at Convoy. Projects I led included:

- "Kingpin" work item & queue system
- Activity feed for shipments (and later other entity types)
- Shipment exceptions management dashboard
- Shipper detention policy editor
- Shipper standard operating procedures
- Shipment details pages
- SMS templates & management dashboard
- Guided exception management flows
- Stripe payment profile creation for carriers
- Payout editor
- Reliable service-to-service data syncing of work item data
- Migrated internal tools Javascript codebase to Typescript

Software Engineer - Ops Tools

HBO Code Labs

Worked on HBO Go/Now app frontend and UI framework. Our common Javascript app codebase ran on over a dozen different device types.

Designed and led effort to move HBO to React. Dove into the internals of React and came up with a prototype and roadmap for building a custom React renderer (components written in React render to our platform primitives of Text, Images, etc.). Led development and organized a team of 3 engineers and 3 contractors to vet the idea and build out the integration. Demonstrated value prop at the prototype stage with improvements in page speed and developer productivity and satisfaction. Presented plan to engineering org and drove adoption.

Senior Staff Engineer and Tech Lead

Worked on UI platform, UI controls, and input. Built a variety of controls (e.g. popups, sliders) and contributed to platform pieces including touch manipulation, list item virtualization, async data loading, lifetime management, accessibility, and layout.

Member of WPF team in .NET working on UI platform and controls including build and setup infrastructure, tree services, and complex controls such as DataGrid and Ribbon.
