I have always been fascinated by how things fit together; in particular, the multitude relationships that can exist between them. This natural curiosity has been the foundation for a successful career in Information Technology and Services. Cutting my early career as a software engineer, I worked on numerous data communications systems, distributed object databases, and business modeling tools - the common theme being the representation, transmission, and consumption of business information artifacts. By mid-career, I had graduated to semantic web, early cloud, business process engineering, and enterprise architecture consultancy. A career highpoint was leading the development of an enterprise-integrated business transformation knowledge graph toolset that won the Queen's Award for Enterprise: Innovation. From there, I founded a small independent consulting company with the goal of directly helping clients solve their most significant architecture challenges, enterprise cloud adoption, and those seeking to build new and innovative digital-first platforms and solutions using knowledge graph and traditional technologies. Today? After 15 years in the consulting space, the main observation is: the promised information revolution for most organizations has largely stalled. Data may be slushing around large enterprises with ever-increasing volume, but it hardly makes a dent on informed decision-making. Worse, most of the useful stuff is either locked away from the decision makers, disjointed, or is presented through inflexible and brittle tooling that reports last-month's stale news. Often, the cycle-time from information discovery to actionable outcome is simply abysmal. As a trained Cybernetician‡, I’m acutely aware just how painful this situation is.
