Before:
 - One crucial pipeline took a week to run,
 - with constant babysitting,
 - and produced ~20 models.
 - Retraining happened every few months, since it cost dozens of man-hours each time.
 - Several other small pipelines with similar issues.
 - Pipelines were error-prone, retries were all-or-nothing.
 - AWS costs per-model were high.

After:
 - 100+ pipelines,
 - some producing 100's of models per run (1000's models monthly in total),
 - running automatically to schedule (some daily) 
 - Pipelines rarely failed.
 - AWS costs per-model produced were reduced by 30-90%.
 - Nightly rebuilds + end-to-end testing of all pipelines, delivering issues to Slack.

Unsupervised automatic deployments for some pipelines using extensive automated testing and quality-control tooling.

Data scientists can own their projects from start to finish (notebook to production to retirement) without requiring any time from data-engineers.

Training others in TypeScript, Python, Airflow, Docker, Linux, Bash, asynchronous programming, systems programming, POSIX fundamentals, and more.

Developed Chrome extensions to automate parts of work flows and to improve people's productivity with Airflow / S3.

Building and managing the IT infrastructure, developing software for satellites and for the ground station, building the GS-portion of the radio link using a software-defined radio, training others in the team with Linux / Git / C / C++ / Java / C# / ZeroMQ / electronics, creating development environments and diagnostic tools.

Making pretty much all technical decisions regarding software, as the only software engineer in the team

Porting Das U-boot for custom boards, writing U-boot scripts, configuring and deploying customised Linux kernels for said boards, setting up the userspace (systemd all the way).

Setting up environments for other developers to use to develop for (bare-metal/freestanding) embedded systems, with a strong focus on integrated unit-testing and CI integration driving the design of the environments that I created.  Configuring and building cross-compilers.

Developing various diagnostic tools including Linux client+server to allow remote pseudoterminals accessible via CANbus and serial, which enabled others to easily control and communicate with many systems at once in a semi-automated manner.

Designing architecture for our first cubesat's flight software, such that debugging, logging, and unit testing are easy and efficient.  Over the course of the project, three of us (myself and 2 aerospace engineers) were implementing this software, so I introduced the team to Git and thankfully they liked it and picked it up very quickly.

Building IT infrastructure for source control, logging, backups, remote access, automation, corporate websites, satellite mission control.

Setting up the ground segment for a cubesat mission, including tracking, radio mod/demod codecs for software-defined radios, building a network of ground stations, designing some electronics for the RF chain including solid-state TRX switching (<1ms switch time vs 50ms for mechanical).

Database design (PostgreSQL).

Training new staff with libraries / frameworks / internal tools.
