Poull Brien is a media creator and entrepreneur. Since 2001, Poull has produced, directed, shot and edited short and long form documentary content for broadcast and streaming networks and cutting edge brands. Poull’s debut feature, Charles Bradley: Soul of America, premiered at SXSW, won Best of the Fest at The Annapolis Film Festival and played over 40 festivals worldwide including IDFA, Hot Docs and Silverdocs. The film was licensed by EPIX, Netflix and the BBC among others and had its theatrical premiere at New York’s Lincoln Center as part of Sound + Vision. Following the documentary, Poull moved into unscripted television through the sale of Catching Hell, an 11 hour series on commercial spearfishermen that he created and executive produced with Stick Figure Productions and Emmy-winner Bill Pruitt. The series was broadcast on The Weather Channel and licensed internationally by Netflix. While serving as co-showrunner on Catching Hell, Poull logged close to one hundred dives in remote waters in the Gulf of Mexico. He experienced the beauty and fragility of ocean ecosystems as well as our own impact upon them. Wanting to make a positive change, Poull co-founded Wild Fish Direct, a seafood distribution company working to reduce negative impacts on ocean ecosystems through the marketing and distribution of certified, responsibly-produced seafood. Wild Fish Direct's clients have evolved from casual and fine dining to nationwide restaurant chains, grocers, grocery delivery companies and meal delivery companies. Alongside his work at Wild Fish Direct, Poull continued producing content for a variety of networks and brands. In 2018 he founded Bigeye Studios, a media production company focused on real-life stories that inspire and improve the world we live in. Poull is based in New York City and travels extensively for both business and media production.
