TEDxSomaiyaVidyavihar

As a member of the TEDx Somaiya Vidyavihar 2018 Core Team, I have taken the role to curate its second edition scheduled in March 2018. Curation of speakers and attendees is a function of multiple factors and is the Key Success Factor (KSF) for a TEDx event. Deciding the theme, searching for ideas and stories, selection of speakers, discussing and collaborating with speakers on content and eventually helping deliver the message in the right way to the audience through these measures (amongst many others) of curation is what our team of curators does. Theme of this 2018 edition is “At a Crossroads”.

We, as a civilization, stand at a very crucial juncture that will decide the future for generations to come. It is at junctions like these that ideas take shape and kickstart the transition to a better future. Innovative and groundbreaking solutions do not emerge on plain sailing paths, but on paths that are inundated with difficulties and challenges. The theme not only focuses on an individual’s decision but also encompasses a broader perspective. 

Through our platform at TEDxSomaiyaVidyavihar, we aim to share ideas that have had far reaching effects and inspire the audience to cultivate novel thinking.

Curator

Kora Management LP

Kora Management LP, a part of the Tiger Management family of funds, is an emerging market focused hedge fund/investment firm and invests long/short over multi-year horizons in a concentrated, low-turnover portfolio

• Worked extensively on 3 investment research projects with exposure range of INR 1–8 billion on target/portfolio companies
• Conducted fundamental equity research using secondary analysis as well as differentiated primary source research (viz. channel checking, expert networking, surveys) to make investment decisions
• Developed focus on clusters including niche financials, emerging internet, connectivity (includes TV media & entertainment industry), consumer (retail and brands)

Summer Associate

Research Innovation Incubation Design Laboratory Foundation (Riidl)

Core Member of the Maker Mela Committee primarily handling the Design and Decor Department along with Content, Marketing and External Relations. 

Notably, led the 200+ volunteer team, attempting to break the Guinness World Record of “World’s largest cardboard structure” by building a boat (LxBxH : 90ft x 25ft x 10ft) purely out of corrugated cardboard sheets, fevicol and general tape.

Drove the collaboration efforts for this large scale Guinness project by getting Haresh Mehta (aka. Cardboard Man of India) and Nuru Karim (Prominent Architect with a flair of innovation) on board as suppliers and advisors. 

Maker Mela is a global level annual flagship event of RiiDL. We, at RiiDL, organise India's biggest Maker gathering called Maker Mela (www.makermela.com), which witnessed 100 makers and 50000+ visitors.

Arihant Marbles India

Led / managed / directed my family business of mining, processing and distributing 'natural indian marbles':
+ Drove the diversification and expansion activities by setting up the biggest processing plant, doubling our annual production capacity to 1.5 million sq. ft. and by collaborating with a buyer to acquire and mine a granite quarry measuring 150,000 sq. ft. 
+ Directed business development strategy to expand target market and boost word of mouth advertising; Average Monthly Turnover has risen by ~15% to INR 2 Million post implementation
+ Developed the survival and growth plans in the ‘declining’ phase of the existing product line viz. by establishing stronghold on mining contracts to strengthen supply chain and create monopoly 
+ Handled key front end activities including client meetings and negotiations and striking deals after assessing genuine demand potential
+ Determined a diversified product solution for each buyer by combining multiple product types to optimize both profit per sq. ft. and customer satisfaction
+ Made price decisions, which are significant since each slab mined is unique and practice of differential pricing prevails
+ Supervised the back end team of 30 people in procurement, production and inventory functions

Worked in a front-end role in 'Risk Consulting' division, a key part of 'Advisory' function of KPMG India:
+ Executed process reviews / internal audits (for multiple firm’s clients) of 5 functions, 6 industries in 7 states in 13 months (in varying capacities viz. as a team lead or assistant to manager and above or even single-handedly) by involving client meetings, observations at Plant / Store / Branch / HO visits and data analytics
+ Executed the review of ‘Retail Operations’ of 70 stores in North India for a QSR major and the review of ‘F&B Procurement and ‘Box Office Management’ at HO and ground level for an entertainment major
+ Single-handedly carried out review of ‘CFA Management & Logistics Operations’ in South India for a cement major
+ Spearheaded the team deployed to prepare a detailed ‘Project Review Report’ and to develop a ‘MIS’ framework for a manufacturing facility of INR 6 bn budgeted cost in Tamil Nadu, India for a top global player in beauty and wellness industry
+ Researched extensively (EIC Approach) to support reports/memos and help directors formulate various new client proposals and strategy presentations
+ Drafted final deliverables and discussed process/functional deficiencies, risks and controls with client’s top/mid management in-person
