Streem (Media Monitoring and Analysis)

Responsible for the successful launch of a market leading Australian media monitoring company into the UK, working with an amazing Founder of the business and the talented Australian support team.
The company has now been acquired by Cision.

With the Streem platform being adopted by FTSE 100 and leading brands for their media monitoring, the scale up phase was mothballed due to the pandemic.

There were a number of very interesting stages and learnings before the launch which included:
* market analysis to identify the potential of the UK market and the competitive landscape
* localisation of the platform to handle both UK and European requirements
* pre-selling of the localised platform to litmus test the appetite of the target corporations

The Streem platform was identified as unique in the market for a number of reasons:
* realtime delivery of media items - within minutes of publication
* power of the platform - analytics and reporting
* ease of use of the platform - self serve so no need to ask your account manager to assist

My greatest personal learning from this project was being able to work remotely and unsupervised for long periods whist maintaining focus, energy and motivation. I found that structuring my day and time to try and achieve the things that would impact the most in the shortest possible time was a helpful filter!

During this period, I established my own sales consultancy focused on driving revenue for SaaS businesses utilising my 24 years of commercial experience.

I realised in all my years of selling and running sales teams that if you fixed a creaky part of any sales process there was almost always an immediate positive impact on sales.

Having a creaky sales deck for example is one way to really slow down sales and is a relatively easy fix!

The standout project during this period (which was a bit left field) was being involved in the strategic development and business plan of a West End musical managed by The Camera Theatre Productions.

The primary function of my role was to investigate the feasibility of launching the CARMA media intelligence solution in the UK levering from the media monitoring clients based in the MENA region and media analysis clients in the UK and Europe.

One of the criteria and KPI's supporting my feasibility study was the development of a 2.2 million pound pipeline of potential opportunities for a proposed integrated media intelligence solution. 
This large pipeline provided the impetus for greater and deeper development of the CARMA solution and supported strategic re-alignment of focusing on media monitoring rather than analysis in the UK.

The key responsibilities of my appointment were to immediately arrest the staff churn within The Profile Group whilst ensuring the team of 20  individuals, including 4 Commercial Managers stayed on track to hit an aggressive 20% growth objective equating to a budget of 8 million pounds.

Sales Director

Global Navigation Solutions Limited

The largest container ships in the world can be a monstrous 1,600 feet plus and over 600,000 tons which is a floating Empire State Building in effect.
With commercially valuable and hazardous cargo, it is imperative that these (and smaller) vessels make safe and compliant journeys every time.
Ships can carry over 2000 paper navigational charts to cover their voyages and these charts can change weekly. Ships do not employ librarians so this work sits with a time poor team. 

Legislation is ushering this industry painfully into the digital age and GNS are leading the charge on providing simple digital and software solutions.

My responsibilities were to ensure that the direct 5 million pound revenue and the indirect revenue of 12 million pounds was supported and developed through the global network of distributors/partners whilst ensuring their consistency with the GNS way. Global reach and local service was the GNS objective along with the ability to deliver charts and publications to any vessel at any key port within a 24 hour period.

The key function of my role was to resuscitate DeHavilland after a failed takeover from Dods which resulted in declining revenues,  high staff churn and a loss in confidence of the brand. The medium term strategy was to achieve profitability for the first time in 10 years with the objective of maximising the potential sales price of the company.
I personally led the drive on client satisfaction throughout the 300+ clients, developed a more consultative engagement structure and project managed technology enhancements to ensure DeHavilland could continue to meet the evolving requirements of public affairs, IR and external comms professionals.

Historicically, Imprima was an excellent financial printer managing the printing of large capital market transactions. The annual report is included here as an obligatory piece of investor relations for the listed organisation. To print complex documents and to allow them to be re-edited collaboratively, you need clever technology. So it isn't a stretch to see how Imprima started to develop iRooms (a secure space to house lots of data and documents). This meant that Imprima had now morped into a communications agency.

My role was to oversea the provision of stakeholder communication support services for corporations (primarily the production, printing and distribution of the annual and interim report). This required driving new business and maintaining 1.2 million BPS from 50 accounts in the UK, 600K Euros from 30 clients in Benelux and 300K Euro from 8 clients in France.

Precise Media

My role objective was to lead the corporate new business team from the front acquiring 2.4 million pounds annually.
I managed the marketing budget of 200K for the group and developed strategic partnerships with the CIPR and PRCA.
I supported process and technology developments across the group which included the implementation of a group wide CRM (Salesforce).

Corporations should be concerned about their brand equity and therefore their reputation as this can affect their value. It is through feedback from ALL their stakeholders that they get a sense of what is being said about them. One of the key sources that sponges up all the noise about what their stakeholders are saying, is the media. So, this is why they monitor the media and make decisions on how to support positive or negative sentiment.

The role of the national account manager was to lead the sales teams from the front and by example. This involved doted line management responsibilities, coaching, training all whist  achieving a personal target of 4 million (15% growth) by focusing on the the largest and potentially largest spenders.

Getty Images is the largest visual content agency on the planet providing anything from pre-shot stock imagery through archive, portraiture, commissioned shoots, live editorial feeds for news, sport and entertainment, video/film and a DAM solution to manage your content.
