Prior to Learnerbly Rajeeb founded Enternships.com, a portal that connects students and graduates to work placements in over 7000 start-ups and SMEs, and which developed innovative corporate talent programmes for clients such as Telefonica, Santander, and Havas for which he was named the “02 X Young Entrepreneur of the Year” in 2009 and the youngest recipient of the Queen's Award for Enterprise Promotion in 2013. 

Rajeeb is also the Co-Founder of StartUp Britain, a national entrepreneurship campaign supported by the government; it was launched by UK Prime Minister David Cameron in March 2011. He served as a Trustee of UnLtd, the Foundation for Social Entrepreneurs for over 10 years, and was recognised as one of the 1,000 Most Influential People in London by The Evening Standard. He graduated with First Class Honours in Economics and Management from the University of Oxford in 2008 and was appointed as the world's youngest Young Global Leader (at 26) by the World Economic Forum in 2012.

One of my favourite discussions at Founders Forum Europe last 23rd October was this panel with Alex Wu (Left Lane Capital), Frederick Jost (HOLY), Frederik Fahning (Zenjob) and Sam Browne (Let's Do This).

It was refreshingly honest about the realities of scaling fast while keeping culture and performance intact. A few things that resonated with me: 

➝ 𝗛𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝘁 𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘁𝘀
Every founder shared the same principle - only hire when the pain of not hiring exceeds the pain of onboarding. External senior hires are often overhyped (40% success rate at best), and culture fit beats experience every time. Back your existing team first before looking outward.

➝ 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘆
One founder openly shared how they failed in the US three times before getting it right. Success only came when someone trusted from HQ moved there and when he personally spent the majority of his own time on the ground.

➝ 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 ❤️
9-9-6 culture might work in some markets (and perhaps appropriate at the start of the business), but the panel talked about the need to create an enduring company. One founder’s philosophy of “performance-driven company with heart” hit home. Coaching, clear incentives and genuine care create teams that want to go the extra mile when it matters most.

➝ 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀
As one founder put it, people want to be led, not endlessly consulted. Like a great coach, you have to listen, but ultimately you need to make the call and stand by it.

High performance doesn’t come from working people harder - it comes from clarity, care, and conviction.

You Can't Schedule Success Without Scheduling Wellbeing

This morning I co-hosted our Transform London Chapter breakfast where we explored a question more leaders need to ask:

"In a world where 9-9-6 (9am–9pm, six days a week) is becoming the norm, how do successful leaders manage stress without burning out?"

Mark Simmonds, author of How the Successful Deal with the Stressful, shared research-backed insights that challenge the way we think about workplace wellbeing. The core message was simple but profound: stop treating wellbeing as a perk and start hardwiring it into your schedule.

The successful don’t hope for balance, they engineer it.

Mark’s research surfaced a consistent truth among history’s high performers:

→ Winston Churchill sustained 18-hour wartime workdays, but his secret weapon was a daily afternoon nap. He understood that rest wasn’t optional; it was tactical.

→ Charles Darwin revolutionized science while “working” just four hours a day. His non-negotiable rituals? Three daily walks to spark creativity. His breakthroughs came not from grinding harder but from building recovery and variety into his routine.

The pattern is unmistakable: sustainable high performance requires systematic wellbeing practices at two levels.

Macro interventions
→ Meditation blocks
→ Walking meetings
→ Strategic naps (à la Churchill)
→ Recovery time between intense periods

Micro interventions
→ Hourly stretching
→ Breathing exercises between calls
→ Screen breaks every 90 minutes

And here’s the real insight: 
If it’s not in your calendar, it won’t happen.

High performers protect their wellbeing with the same discipline they apply to board meetings and client calls.

Zooming out, in an age where AI is reshaping the nature of work, it’s time to rethink how we measure and value productivity. We need to move past presenteeism and the badge-of-honour mentality around long hours, and shift toward impact, intentionality, and working smarter.
