Recently came across a quote by Justin Moore that seems so relatable - "If you aren't looking back and cringing at your old content, you're not progressing."  Ouch.

But honestly?  It's true.😔

As a graphic designer, my portfolio is a living document – a testament to my journey, my growth, and yes, sometimes, my early design blunders.  Looking back at some of my older work can definitely induce a cringe or two.  

Those color palettes!  Those fonts!  What was I thinking?😖

But here's the thing:  embracing that cringe is actually a good sign.  It means I've learned, I've evolved, and my design skills have (hopefully) improved.  It shows I'm not stagnant, that I'm constantly pushing myself to be better.😌

Here's how I view the "cringe factor":

✅It shows progress and inspires further growth.

✅It highlights areas for improvement and motivates learning.

✅It keeps you grounded and prevents taking yourself too seriously.

So, the next time you feel a cringe creep up while revisiting old work, embrace it!  It's a sign of a designer who's constantly learning and growing.

When I was a little, I thought my mom had the easiest job in the world. I'd watch her effortlessly whip up meals, tidy up the house, and take care of us, all without breaking a sweat. Whenever she made something simple for dinner, I'd grumble and complain, thinking she was just being lazy.

I vividly remember one evening, as I moaned about the dinner she'd prepared, she turned to me with a knowing smile and said, "Every job seems easy until you do it." At the time, I brushed it off, convinced that cooking and cleaning couldn't possibly be that hard.

But oh, how wrong I was.

Fast forward to today, and here I am, in the very same kitchen, facing the same tasks my mom once did. As I juggle cooking, cleaning, and taking care of my own family, I realize just how much effort and dedication it takes to keep everything running smoothly.

Now, whenever I find myself struggling to keep up, I can't help but hear my mom's words echoing in my mind. "Every job seems easy until you do it," she'd say. And boy, was she right.

We've all been there: the client critique that leaves you questioning your entire design career. 😑 

For me, it was a logo proposal that felt like a masterpiece in my head, but according to the client, resembled a "confused cartoon" Ouch.

Dejected, I was ready to hit the "undo" button on my entire design existence. But then, a wise colleague reminded me - feedback, even the brutal kind, is a chance to learn and grow.

So, I took a deep breath and dug into the critique. Was the client completely off base? 

Nope. Their feedback, though harsh, highlighted areas where my design could be clearer and more impactful.

Here's where the magic happened: Instead of feeling defeated, I saw this as an opportunity to refine my concept. I incorporated the client's suggestions, simplified the design, and added a pop of color. 

The result? A logo that not only addressed their concerns but was also arguably stronger than the original. 😀 

The lesson learned? Critique isn't a personal attack; it's a chance to see your work through a different lens. By embracing feedback (even the scary kind!), we can push ourselves to become better designers.

Last week's crazy downpours in the UAE had everyone talking! My friends were venting about work piling up due to office closures and flooded commutes.

Meanwhile, I was here in my cozy PJs, sipping coffee and tackling my tasks as usual. Perks of working from home, right?
