2014- 2020 👩🏼‍💼
I worked as a recruiter In London & Singapore- recruiting across multiple disciplines and from interns to C suite. 

March 2020 😟
Lockdown forced me to stop and think about my life and what I wanted. 
I was 33, drank too much and spent all of my time working or buying things I didn't need, thinking it would make me happy. 
I wasn't happy and after hours of trying to figure out where my 'happy place' is, I realised it was by the ocean (near it, on it, in it!). 

April 2021 🌴
The office I worked in was still closed, so I took the leap and decided to work remotely from Bali until things opened up again. 
I loved it out there: the weather, the people, the food, the culture and most importantly for me: THE OCEAN made me happy. I surfed most mornings, walked on the beach at sunset and on the weekends I could go diving/ snorkelling. 

June 2021 📞
My boss called. "You need to come back to London, the office is opening." 
Noooooooo. 
I really didn't want to go back to my small expensive flat, back to a packed commuter train, back to evenings in front of the TV or at the pub and weekends spent shopping for things I didn't need.

My freedom was being taken away.

So I quit.

July 2021 💻
I struggled to find a fully remote job and realised that it wouldn't be the same as getting an onsite job. 
Eventually, I created a working strategy and landed 2 freelance gigs, helping remote-first companies to hire. 

August 2021
Then I had an "aha" moment- Instead of helping companies to hire, I could use my expertise as a recruiter for remote companies to help people to land their ideal remote job. 
And so Remote Rebellion was born!

Now... 🌍

Yesterday was my mum's birthday.

She was stopping in Thailand on a cruise and asked if I could 'pop over' from Bali to see her.
Now, I wouldn't consider x2 flights and a 7 hour trip 'popping' anywhere, but she's worth it!

When I worked in an office in London I was only 2 hours on the train away from my mum in Manchester, but I rarely got to see her.
The train cost about as much as the flight from Bali to Thailand and by the time I got there to Manchester on the Friday night after work, we only really had Saturday before I had to head back on Sunday to get to the office. 😩

Remote work is more than just working in your PJs, it's about having the flexibility to spend quality time, with the most important people in your life. 
And my mum is pretty damn important.

Saying your workplace is/was toxic is a red flag for some hiring managers.🚩

Was chatting to some friends about hiring the other day. Both have built successful businesses and they said this is a red flag.

🚨 Here's what to do if you ever spill water on your laptop.

I was in a rush and stupidly put my (open) water bottle in my bag and it spilt all over my nearly new MacBook.

Nightmare!

Don't do what I did to avoid you having to replace your laptop.

Follow these steps to increase your chances of saving it:

1. Turn it off immediately!
↳ Hold the power button until it shuts down. Don't worry about saving anything!
↳ Disconnect from any power sources.
2. Remove all peripherals.
↳ Unplug everything – mouse, keyboard, USB drives.
3. Dry it out.
↳ Use a towel to pat it dry.
↳ Tilt your laptop slightly to let the water drain.
4. Leave it!
↳ Do NOT open it. Leave it in a warm dry room
↳ Call a laptop repair place and get it booked in ASAP

What NOT to do:

❌ Don't use a hairdryer (it can cause static damage).
❌ Do not shake it. This could make it worse
❌ Don't turn it on to check if its OK

By following these steps, you might just save yourself from a full laptop replacement.

Remember, quick action is key!
