In charge of Energy Products and Technologies for Sasol's Energy Business and Sustainability to provide technical guidance and leadership to operations; to develop and implement technical product solutions taking into account the energy industry and future energy landscape developments. Technical integration between different business units regarding energy products quality and impacts of operational changes. Product Quality Governance from feed streams to components and final energy products, including deviation management and problem solving. Initiating and evaluating alternative product applications, process and technology options. Incorporating cross functional synergies between the Sasol Energy product portfolio and operations. Actively contributing to the development and execution of technical product road maps and the identification of optimization opportunities.

Senior Technical Advisor: Energy

Single point accountable to deliver agreed project objectives for Sasol Secunda Gas Production facility. To realize the business intent of the project by leading, managing, facilitating and co-coordinating multi disciplinary resources. Develop and implement project execution strategies and plans. Ensure project compliance to execution plan. Manage different contracting strategies. Develop estimates and ensure cost control.  Management of internal and external stakeholders/suppliers and contractors. Ensure integrated risk management along the project track. I initiated and led five projects with a combined end of job cost of R81 million.

Project Manager: Gas Production Technologies

In this role within the Research and Technology department. Focus area is Sasol’s proprietary Fischer Tropsch loop for Sasolburg and Secunda site, responsible for the technology performance.  I developed technology strategies aligned to corporate strategy. Through the expertise within the research hub I facilitate the initiation of new ideas to the technology development funnel and management thereof. Facilitate framing and alignment meetings. Facilitate the correct definition of the problem and initiation of suitable solutions. Ensure alignment of the research efforts with business and operation needs. Provide leadership and governance during technology development review points and ensure that the technology at commercial status is fitting to business/operation requirements. Acts a project and engineering manager to ensure that the final technology offering meet the right cost, quality and on time. Review work request from operations and allocate to the correct teams within the research hub, and also make sure the right urgency is taken into consideration. Bridge the gap among all stakeholders; operations, technical support, intellectual property, legal, licensing, process development and scientist.

Technology Manager: FT and Syn Gas Technologies

As part of the Sasolburg site expansion to increase production wax volumes. I joined a project in detail engineering. Total cost of the project is between half a million rands to a billion rands. Aim of the project was to debottleneck the gas loop and paraffin section to cater for increased volumes of the main site product, wax. I was responsible for ensuring correct process design as per process intent and account for interfaces with existing facilities, captured in the basic engineering package. Conducted design verifications for all pieces of equipment, control systems and safety systems. Gathered input from other engineering disciplined to ensure alignment with process design intent. Participated and contributed during design, 3D model and control systems reviews prior to construction. Participated and contributed during process design quality check outs. Conducted operator training prior to start up. Provided technical support during start-up. Conducted and executed process changes at start up to correct design errors. Initiated fine tuning of control loops. Contributed process performance data for a beneficial operation report, for hand over to the operating team.
