Fiji Marine Conservation Trust

Aiding the conservation team on Drawaqa Island, Fiji, in their efforts of reef restoration, planting and growth. The basis of the project involved removing Acanthaster planci (Crown of Thorns Starfish) to ensure coral health, and coral replanting to increase cover, structural complexity, and reef biodiversity. In time away from work underwater, updates were made to the islands Marine Species Catalog.

Working with Chinese, Spanish, Japanese, Ukrainian, Turkish and HKSAR students aged 10-16 as an online student host
The role involved supporting all students in their subjects throughout the 4 weeks, help them improve their English language skills (particularly speaking) and prepare them for boarding school life in the UK

Additionally, the role included creating content for the Etherton Education online library; showcasing Bristol, solely organising a  live trip to give the students an idea of what British cities are like whilst Covid-19 prevents in-person courses.

The role involved supporting all students in their subjects throughout the 4 weeks, help them improve their English language skills (particularly speaking) and prepare them for boarding school life in the UK
Additionally the role included creating content for the Etherton Education online library; showcasing regular places found in Britain, colloquialism and revision advice for the students.

A Student Host for Etherton Education's summer course in Cheltenham.
This specific programme aims to give children (aged 6-11) and their parents an insight into life at English boarding schools. The course participants (30) were all from mainland China, with varying levels of English.

Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology

A 6 module, 12-week Seismology workshop with IRIS (Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology) using: Linux, GMT’s, Seismic Analysis Code (SAC), Wilber Scripts, Python, ObsPy and Jupyter notebooks, to analyse a variety of seismic data. A highlight of the course was using a TauP methodology for an earthquake in the Southern Caribbean region; constructing a velocity model to compare with the observations via the IRIS GSV. An average grade of 81% for assignments puts me in the top tier of this US accredited course for master’s students.

2nd Year Geophysics Course Representative

EPP Group in the European Parliament

A week of work experience, shadowing and assisting MEP Julie Girling and her team in the European Parliament. During the week I sat in on  reviews with Julie and her assistants regarding articles and annex reviews for a Persistent Organic Pollutants trilogue later in the week. I attended various presentations such as; Robotics in Healthcare policy consideration with leading medical professionals and an EPC brexit negotiations update. Further to this I was exposed to various European commission assemblies including; An exchange of views with Ms Elzbieta Bienkowska the European commissioner for the internal market discussing ENVI automotive emission directives. Meeting with Jon Coniam, a contractor for Energy and Environment Project Support Ltd resulted in constructive discussions regarding issues such as climate change with various of his postgraduate contacts. In time not spent at these events, I responded to a variety of environmental emails from constituencies Julie represents from the South West of England.
