Showcasing an entrepreneurial flair, I jointly established the business and successfully, in conjunction with an Acquisition & Mergers company, negotiated the sale and the handover of the business over a 2-year period to a large Swedish Company nearly 17 years after its establishment. During this time, I have gained vast experience across the whole manufacturing business arena from initial start-up to a £3.5m t/o company with consistent Operating Margins of 5%+. Within this capacity, championed all aspects of sales & marketing, commercial & finance, product & brand development and quality. I oversaw the production of cables and connectors for the construction industry, successfully reducing the amount of skill required on-site. Headed up the development, commercialisation and all aspects of the launch of Flexishield®, Flexipower® and Fleximod™ branded products, their management and compliance, taking the business through ISO 9001:2015 accreditation and BASEC product certification. As a Director, I held full responsibility for 70% of business sales and the management of distributors and wholesales as the primary route to market, successfully winning major projects of up to £500k.
Drove the need and the implementation of a sales order processing system. During this time, I maintained financial responsibility with the PAYE and HMRC organisations, cash flow management, as well as securing and negotiating business lending. Most recently headed up the development to manufacture of a bespoke cable, part of a revolutionary modularised residential house wiring system for ‘On and Off’ site house build, this was in collaboration with a key customer and the world’s leading connector company. Marketed and launched by the customer in the 4th quarter 2019, forecasted £1m cable sales value within 3 to 5 years, with high gross margin attainment.

Advanced Cable Concepts Ltd

Having identified the opportunity for a full range ‘Plug & Play’ modularised wiring system using moulded on connectors for use in the UK electrical installation market sector. As part of my role, I actively built a team and developed a full business plan with the aim to raise £1.25m funding to take the system from concept through to design, testing, approval, manufacturing set-up to commercialisation.

As the Marketing Manager, I established a new marketing function for the company and planned the global strategy to move away from commodity-based products to higher-value-added ranges, refocussing manufactured cables into branded ranges. Kilflam™ and Fumeguard™. I championed demand creation for a new building cable product concept, branded “Guardian™", giving the company it's highest-margin product, which helped lead the UK and Irish Standards Committee’s in the setting up of new local cable standards.

Here I introduced a Marketing Department with product and communication functions to develop a new company profile and expand brand awareness internationally and within the UK, whilst maintaining a budget of £600k.  Recognising the need to introduce new products and penetrate new markets. I led the launch of a range in Germany generating £179k in the 1st year, and also in Australia generating £221k in it’s 1st year. I also coordinated the diversification into the Structured wiring market with the UK launch of Deltamode™, Cat 5, cable, generating £1.4m business within 12 months. Additionally, I identified a highly profitable market requirement for a niche range of fire performance coaxial cables which saw the cable design and launch of Firetuf™ FT Coax. I actively penetrated the Australian and German markets with new cable ranges generating £400k in their first trading year. During this time, I planned and initiated a major offensive for the Firetuf™ range of fire performance cables, defending the brand position from a key competitor attempting to change the British Standard to suit their own product. I also successfully reviewed, developed and actioned a plan with the Sales Team to penetrate the Oil, Gas and Petrochemical markets with direct business of major projects in order to move away from a negative margin business via distributors. Within this role, I also researched the French market to identify a major opportunity for fire performance cables, an estimated market of £25m, opened up strategic partnership discussions with local companies
