Chomps, the meat snack brand, pulled off one of the smartest pop-up activations of the year.

They took over an old gas station in Austin for a back-to-school event: they cleaned out parents' cars, handed out free snacks and branded merch, and turned everyday stress into a shareable experience.

Experiential marketing like this works. It builds lasting brand equity. Small brands can learn from it.

A PR distaster? Or a sneaky way to get a meeting? 

BAGGU opened a new store and handed out water bottles and hats featuring a modified BART logo. 

Thing is, BART never gave them permission. Wild stuff. Baggu thought it would be OK to knock off the BART logo and make it their own. 

The transit agency clarified. that this was definitely NOT an official collaboration, also noting that BART is in a financial crunch. The lost opportunity for a legitimate licensing deal stung. 

Public pressure mounted, customers demanded accountability, and Baggu eventually apologized. The items were giveaways, not sales, and that they should’ve partnered with BART from the start. 

Now the two are in talks for a future collab.

H-E-B went full heavy metal.

They teamed up with Nashville designer Connor Dwyer to drop a limited-edition “metal band” T-shirt. 

It was a hit! 

Then the site crashed. 

1000 shirts sold out in four minutes, and thousands of fans were left empty-handed.

The lesson: hype means nothing if your systems can’t handle it. 

Before your next merch drop, stress test everything.

Because when fans show up ready to buy, you need to be ready too.
