I use "they" as a preferred gender because my focus is on what I can do professionally, not my genetics or what I identify as personally. My being male should have zero impact on what I do professionally. 2. I am dressed as a Ninja in my profile for several reasons. The first is that it connects with my prior reason as for using "they". Second, the only recent photos I have of myself are masked and the most interesting photo is that of myself as a Ninja. There are other reasons connected to this, such as public identity protection (using my personal appearance to verify who I am), and having unique personal branding, but the first two are the main reasons.
