At 30 as I was planning my exit into MBA, but life had it’s plan and landed me into a Ph.D  scholar position in engineering sciences.

At 37 I was free to make choices that I couldn’t earlier, and explored a lot to finally take a U turn to empower STEM professionals, researchers and Ph.D’s to find careers that light them up.

And this is when I Founded “DYNAMIC PROFESSIONALS HUB” that has been closely working with premier institutes like IIT's and XLRI in India through group and one on one coaching/ training sessions that are largely experiential to lead them 
to careers that maximise their potential

My mission is to help engineering and science professionals, both current and aspiring, to attract career opportunities that light them up, through my job coaching courses

If you feel too attached to your work then rightly so
Because you spent years, your blood and sweat to make those experiments work, write that damn thesis, and built that expertise.
 
But your research’s primary job was to get you a Ph.D degree,
So as good as it feels to contribute something original to the knowledge pool,

We also need to acknowledge that our Ph.D. contribution is a tiny spec in the entire spectrum of knowledge available.
 
So what got you the degree, won’t get you to the next stop which may be an industry job.

You have to let go, the wish most of the time, 
to find opportunities in future that align perfectly with your past work.
 
But you don’t have to let go the skills you picked up in the process,
Which is writing, critical thinking, building from scratch, executing plans, data analysis and much more!!
 
And you also have to pick up new skills, ( nope no option there )
that allow you to Maximize your possibilities 
To feel valued and To thrive!!

“I was shit scared to let my mentor know that I wanted to take a U turn post Ph.D”

Nope it wasn’t because my mentor was a tormentor, it was exactly the opposite. He was just what a balanced mentor should be.

But still I was shit scared to tell him, that I didn’t want to pursue what I learned from him for the past 5 years any further!!

And that’s because in my head it sounded like

What would he think of me? What would other’s think of me. 
I mean having a solid research background, at brands like General Electric, followed by good publications, I want to get into communication, coaching, learning and development? 

Really ? I mean that’s so not being up to the mark !!

But when I mustered the courage to make the pivot, and share the same with my mentor I realised

Before what other’s think of me, what mattered more was what I thought of myself.

My heart was all in for quitting and pivoting, but my mind was just not at peace with my choices. 

I was self judging and self rejecting  a lot before anyone else could.

And that was more because, I didn’t have any examples in my immediate circle to look up to.

So it was time to be my own example. That really sucked!! 

And that took a lot of courage.

Courage to start from scratch.
Courage to be sometimes made fun of.
Courage to learn a lot many new skills that I sucked at.
Courage to act despite the non-supportive voices in my own head.
Courage to get rejected by tons of people I was offering my services to.


Also courage to design paid Training sessions for  3500 + stem professionals
Also courage to land myself opportunities to speak at premier institutes
Also courage to initiate my 1 on 1 coaching sessions.
Also courage to stay the course and much more

And finally courage to let my mentor know, I am quitting only to end up with a huge recommendation from him on my LinkedIn profile.

So who will you be ?

P.S: By the way, did I ever tell you, the one thing special about my phd was I am the only woman worldwide who has worked on multiaxial fatigue in steels 🙂

3 Things to ❌Avoid and ✔️1 Thing to do in Your Career Transition Journey 

1️⃣ Don't Wait for a Roadmap: 
Let's be real. 

There's no roadmap available that can guarantee success because every career transition journey is unique 
All you can start with is just a direction.
 
2️⃣ Stop Comparing Yourself: 

Yes as cliché as it may sound this is a big one.

Comparing yourself to others is like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole – it just doesn't work! 
Your skillsets, persona traits and hurdles are one-of-a-kind, so own them! Focus on your own race, because career transition is a competition with your own self!!

3️⃣ Don't Rely Solely on closed ones: 

Don't get me wrong. Your buddies and family want the best for you. 
But when it comes to career switch, they might not have all the answers. 

It's like asking a penguin “how to fly” – 
they mean well, but they just don't get it! 

So here’s the 1 thing you need to do,

✅ Create dynamic loops that fetch results

Get past the calculations of the mind and start taking action like its meant to happen sooner or later despite the obstacles.

More actions, less overthinking, more results, less doubts – and repeat ♻️-that's the loop you want to be in.

Otherwise you will be stuck in faulty loops that will make the journey harder.

It’s just not why should we hire you but also Why shouldn’t we hire you?

Have you prepared for that? If not let’s get you prepared quickly.
The very first thing to understand is what is the intent of the hiring manager to ask this question.

Well there could be many, but let’s just focus on four primary things that the hiring manager wants to gauge about you with this question
1)    ➡️ Your transparency
2)    ➡️Your self awareness, and fit for the role
3)    ➡️Your resilience and adaptability
4)    ➡️ Your ability to handle pressure

Now picture this, that you are a Ph.D applying for the role of a project manager, and the following is your reply👇
 
"Honestly, If you're seeking a leader who can drive projects forward with a management perspective, I understand why you might hesitate to consider me for this position. 
My background as a PhD has primarily focused on the technical aspects of projects rather than managerial responsibilities.
However, I've taken proactive steps to bridge this gap. I've invested in project management courses and applied my newly acquired skills through case studies showcased in my portfolio. Also, I volunteered to lead a project team at a start up to successfully implement a new research methodology, demonstrating my ability to initiate, plan, execute, and oversee projects effectively till closure.

Additionally, my experience coordinating and managing three mentors across different locations with minimal conflicts, highlights my strong coordination and people skills, which are essential for project management roles. 

And so with me, you'll be hiring not just a project manager but a driven, adaptable individual committed to delivering results as a team, while contributing effectively to shared goals of the organisation and the stakeholders"

1)☑️  the answer starts with acknowledging the limitation, which shows transparency

2) ☑️By highlighting case studies created, the interviewee demonstrates that they understand the requirements of the role intricately

3) ☑️By highlighting the transferable skills, like coordination with relevant stories, in addition to volunteering for gaining experience, shows the adaptable nature of the candidate.

4) ☑️By being prepared for this question with pointers to make your case strong, you only showcase you can handle pressure well.

Do you realise how you are ticking all the boxes of the hiring manger, mentioned at the beginning ?

Its time to use your mind, more than your degrees to frame right answers.

Finally it was super exciting to meet & hear the content creators virtually, I had been interacting with, on linkedin.

4 AI features to make your writing engaging and efficient

If asking for help during job search or career transition, is hard, 
then this post is for you!!
 
I had a call this evening with a bright Ph.D with relevant industry experience, who is looking for her next job and said that 

“ It feels shitty to ask for help”.

Now let me tell you there are two kinds of people that ask for help
 
 
➡️The first kind – thin skin and thick skull type-

These are hesitant people, who don’t want to come across as someone, 

👉who is insecure or weak 
👉Who think rejection as an attack on their self-worth
👉Who feels that their façade will be seen through soon.
👉Who takes too much pride in self-reliance and self-adequacy 
 
➡️The 2nd kind – thick skin and thin skull type -
are the shameless kinds, like me 😂who reach out to people,
 
✔️ensuring that people have the space to say no comfortably
✔️appealing to their self-interest and not mine to ensure I am adding value
✔️These kinds have no façade, because they value the relationship more than the favor
✔️These kinds also value, self reliance and self adequacy, but know when to let go of these traits
 
You see The Thick skin helps, to not take things personally⚡, 
otherwise, the people’s reaction or words would hurt you more than it should

And Thin skull helps, to have a more dynamic mind, 
that can focus on relationship building.
 
But if you are the thin skin, and thick skull kind 
(which is by the way how our education system trains us to be)

You can continue to be the same, that’s your choice, but know that all choices come with a price 🙂.

3 reason why your cold email will not be answered

Cold emailing is one of the strategies I use to help professionals with job transitions, as it has always worked for me.

Right from the busiest entrepreneur's like Ankur Warikoo, to Best of professors in my feild of work, I have always heard back. Why so?

Well, in this post  I'm breaking down three primary reasons why your cold emails might not be getting the attention they deserve, 
to ensure you're making yourself visible:

👉1) Lack of Brevity: How likely are you to read a long form email written to you unless its your Horoscope😂 ( in my case I dont even read those because I know myself more than any horoscope can reveal about me )

Similalry the hiring managers, have numerous competing priorities, and if your email dosen't capture what's in it for the manager, in the first 3-5 seconds you lost it which takes us to the 2nd pointer

👉2) Lack of Relevance: If your aren't keeping it relevant right from the subject line, you are loosing out. 

For example, compare "3 Reasons You Should Hire Me for X Role" to "My Resume for Your Perusal." Which is more likely to capture attention? 

You know the answer. 🙂

👉3) And finally Follow up: Even if you excel at the first two points, not receiving a reply doesn't mean it's over. 

We all have the attention span of a goldfish, and hiring managers are no exception. 

Following up serves as a gentle reminder for them to respond, provided they found value in your initial email.

Couple of days back a Student reached out to me, with a connection request.

I accepted, and a conversation was initiated. 

And soon the replies sounded so chat gpt-ish 
( sure that word doesn’t exist, but you have got the essence of it ).

Now I am really not sure why are you using chat gpt to have a simple conversation - 

is it to save time or is it because you really don’t know how to take the conversation forward and want to come across as smart ??

If it’s to save time, then saving time always isn’t the right solution, specially 

When the person on the other end might be Smarter than you think, 

and chat gptish reply with no modifications,
May only be doing more harm than good.🙈

And if it’s because you can’t really make conversation interesting, then learn it, because you will not have Chat Gpt with you in one on one interviews or 

other meetings that decide the course of your career journey!!!

Don't you think you give a vibe of a persona through your writing ?

The answer is simple: we all have different career paths to follow. 

Job hopping can be a smart way to find better opportunities that align with your career goals, or it can be a sign of restlessness and lack of direction.

So the question is never whether job hopping is good or not, rather it is about WHY ?

Why Are you job hopping ?

Maybe it's earning more money, maybe it's developing new skills, or maybe it's pursuing a passion.

Let’s illustrate that with a simple example, 
say you have been asked tell me about yourself

Your answer could be any of the following 2

➡️Starting with Answer 1

After a phd in molecular biology I started with a scientist role, where I worked as a principal investigator. And since then till date I have a decade long experience in cell culture, genetic engineering, and drug development.
 In my current role at XYZ Biotech, I led a team that successfully developed a novel gene therapy product. And I think my technical skills and experience all them apply to this role that I have applied for.

Anything wrong with Answer 1, may be not , 
➡️but what if you respond with Answer 2

‘Absolutely, my journey in the STEM field has been quite dynamic. More so because I have never limited myself to the lab. Though a PhD in Molecular Biology, I was quick to recognise the significance of interdisciplinary skills, and so transitioned into a project management role at ABC biotech. This was a role, where I had an immense learning curve, about communicating science to business stakeholders, and collaborating with them which proved crucial in launching our innovative gene therapy product. 

My journey has taught me that scientific expertise can be highly adaptable, and I'm excited about the prospect of bringing my diverse skill set to this Senior Scientist position in your biotech company."

💡Do you see the difference? 

Answer 1 is a standard one highlighting expertise, 
while the Answer 2 is a multidimensional one highlighting the interviewee’s resilience, adaptability and interdisciplinary skills without even mentioning it explicitly

Now think about it if you were the hiring manager which is the answer that is more likely to impress you ?
