Over the course of my career, I have had the opportunity to serve in a variety of clinical and non-clinical roles. I have served as an evaluator, an educator, and a leader. I have drawn leadership experience from both my military and civilian careers. In the Air National Guard, I served as an instructor and examiner flight medic; and Assistant Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of Aircrew Standards and Evaluation. My team helped develop training and practice standards that were adopted Air Force-wide. We also participated in research; developing Air Force-wide procedures for the use of a medical facility designed to protect staff and patients from conventional, chemical and nuclear attack. As Deputy Chief of Operations at Hennepin EMS; I've served in many roles; from Safety and Compliance Officer, to Electronic Patient Care Reporting System project manager, Quality Assurance Officer and Public Information Officer. These roles provided me opportunity to work in and lead cross-functional teams of professionals, some within the larger organization, and some in other organizations or communities. As a manager of Quality & Education at Fairview/HealthEast, I had the opportunity to lead a team dedicated to clinical excellence. I also had the opportunity to work with a variety of cross-functional teams in matters of clinical quality, education, and patient and provider safety. I've lead a period of growth that included my team providing critical care education to the entire parent organization (7000 clinical staff). In my current role, I oversee all EMS operations and education for a primarily student-volunteer department that operates under the University's Department of Emergency Management. My small paid staff and nearly 100 volunteers provide emergency medical care for spectators and participants from ballet and Northrop Auditorium, to Gopher Hockey and Football. My team is also responsible for ensuring all 400+ AEDs on campus are ready for use.
